Overview

Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9. Job type: Full-time Contract of Employment.

To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision. The post holder is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing care of patients. Develop, implement and evaluate wound care plans as appropriate.


Primary Duties And Responsibilities

* As a nurse practitioner you must practice within the Code of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by NMBI and comply with Policies and Procedures of UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic.
* Ensure each patient is treated as an individual, and that their physical, psychological and religious wellbeing is respected.
* Give direct patient care in selected patient situations and serve as a behavioural model for excellence in practice.
* Maintain the safety and wellbeing of patients, their relatives, and staff in accordance with UPMC SSC policies and procedures.
* Set standards of Nursing Practice. Communicate these standards to the Nursing Personnel; audit and change standards as necessary.
* Liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that care delivery is patient focused and of the highest standard.
* Ensure that a professional standard of behaviour is maintained by all nursing team members.
* Facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary team as necessary.
* Adherence to departmental patient identification policy at all times.
* Ensure all equipment is cleaned, checked daily and maintained and take appropriate action with faulty equipment as per UPMC SSC policy.
* Monitor the usage of stores, equipment and dressings, reporting any discrepancies to the CNM1.
* Takes responsibility for ensuring safe lifting techniques when assisting in the movement and lifting of patients and equipment.
* Maintain personal contact with patients through reassurance and explanation at all times.
* Assessment of wounds and planning of treatment as appropriate.
* Ability to recognise own limitations and refer to appropriate person for support and advice.
* Manage own work load ensuring treatment is carried out in accordance with UPMC SSC guidelines and policies.
* Reports to the CNM1, Assistant Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing, accidents, incidents, and complaints, drug defects affecting patients, staff, supplies and services.
* Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.
* Takes an active role in maintaining effective communication with all disciplines.
* Assists in the care, labelling and dispatch of specimens for laboratory examination.
* Ensures all clinical and legal documents are completed and that they are accurate and legible in accordance with UPMC SSC guidelines.
* Maintains appropriate pharmacy stock levels and adheres to UPMC SSC policies and procedures.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times.
* Ensure nursing care is based on the latest research findings and constitutes best practice.
* Ensures that safety procedures are carried out in relation to hazards such as fire and infection control.
* Demonstrate initiative and be receptive to new ideas and development.


Qualifications & Experience

* Be a Registered General Nurse and registered with NMBI on the live register.
* Post-Graduate Course in Wound Care is essential
* Have two years post registration wound care experience
* Have a minimum of 5 years post registration experience
* Have experience as a Wound Care Nurse
* Demonstrate experience of managing a team of nurses and ideally experience in an orthopaedic facility.
* Be computer literate.
* Have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
* Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.
* Be able to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.
* Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
* Be of good character.
