The role
A leading Civil Contractor dedicated to building a better future, with a strong focus on renewable energy and utilities are looking for a Plant Fitter to join their team in the Midlands area. The Plant Fitter will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, diagnosis and repair of construction plant and equipment used on civil engineering projects. The role is critical in ensuring plant availability, safety, and compliance, minimising downtime. This role involves a combination of site-based work and time spent in the company workshop.
Role
Carry out preventative maintenance, servicing, and inspections on construction plant and machinery.
Diagnose faults and undertake mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical repairs.
Repair and overhaul components such as engines, transmissions, braking systems, pumps, and rams.
Maintain small tools and ancillary equipment as required.
Carry out breakdown repairs on-site, including emergency callouts where required.
Work in the company workshop and on live construction sites.
Liaise with site management regarding plant availability and defects.
Ensure plant complies with manufacturer specifications and statutory requirements.
Work in accordance with Irish health & safety legislation, company policies, and Safe Work Method Statements.
Ensure all plant is maintained to comply with PUWER, LOLER, and Road Traffic requirements where applicable.
Complete risk assessments and safety documentation when working on-site.
Always promote a strong safety culture.
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately complete service records, inspection reports, and defect sheets.
Update digital or manual plant maintenance systems.
Report recurring faults or safety concerns to management.
Requirements
Recognised trade qualification as a Plant Fitter / Heavy Plant Mechanic
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role within civil engineering or construction.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and plant diagnostics.
Full, clean Irish driving licence
Ability to work independently and under pressure.
Experience working on large civil engineering projects.
Knowledge of telematics and modern diagnostic systems.
Welding and fabrication skills.
MEWP or forklift certification.
HGV licence.
Salary
Salary circa €55k – €75k DOE
