NexVentur is seeking to hire a Setting Out Engineer on behalf of a Tier 1 main building contractor based in Galway.
With a massive regional pipeline of multi‑million euro developments, they provide their engineering teams with top‑of‑the‑range robotic survey kit, dedicated digital support, and clear pathways to senior management. They are looking for a suitable candidate to oversee Setting Out and structural accuracy on‑site in Galway.
As a Setting Out Engineer, you will be the technical anchor on‑site, responsible for transferring complex architectural plans and structural models into accurate physical reality. This role requires total independence when utilising modern survey instruments to manage all grid lines, levels and dimension control.
Role & Responsibilities
Independently establish and maintain site primary control networks, setting out lines, levels and grids using robotic instruments.
Interrogate architectural and structural drawings / BIM models via AutoCAD to extract setting‑out data and proactively resolve design clashes before crews begin building.
Own the site QA process. Conduct mandatory pre‑pour concrete checks, hold line‑and‑level inspections, and log impeccable digital records to satisfy Building Control Regulations (BCA).
Execute accurate as‑built surveys of completed works (drainage, concrete structures, structural bolt groups) to feed data back to the design team for final client handover.
Provide clear, precise reference points, offsets and level datums to direct crews and specialised groundworks, RC frame, and steel subcontractors.
Take full responsibility for the care, maintenance and routine calibration checks of on‑site robotic total stations and GPS units.
Skills & Experience
Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
2–4+ years of hands‑on experience as a Site / Setting Out Engineer, working specifically on main building contracts or heavy structural frames in Ireland or the UK.
Competency operating modern robotic total stations (Leica TS16 / TS18 or Trimble equivalents) and GNSS / GPS rover units.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for downloading, manipulating and uploading coordinates, alongside general MS Excel literacy.
Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificates are mandatory.
Full, clean Irish driving licence to facilitate travel across active regional project boundaries.
Pay & Benefits
Competitive salary based on experience (€50,000–65,000).
Company vehicle, fuel card and toll allowance.
Tier 1 benefits package including Pension, Healthcare and Bonus structure.
Long‑term project stability in Galway and the West.
Career development opportunities.
