MTU Crawford College of Art and Design (CCAD), a constituent college of Munster Technological University, is a vibrant multi-campus College, which has been providing education in the arts for more than 100 years.

MTU Crawford College of Art & Design has three departments: Fine Art and Applied Art Media Communications Arts in Health & Education.
The Department of Fine Art & Applied Art is based in our Sharman Crawford Street campus, which is in the heart of Cork city with easy access to vibrant art institutions and cultural scenes.
Our full-time programmes provide critically engaged studio-based education, with an emphasis on instilling individualism and independence preparing graduates for professional careers in the arts.
Study facilities include studio space with access to well-equipped workshops to facilitate; drawing, media, photography studio, digital imaging lab and/or traditional darkrooms, print, textiles, glass, ceramics, metal, wood, alongside media equipped lecture theatres.
An experimental research-oriented approach is at the heart of our practice-based teaching environment, where students are expected to conduct individual and original art research from year one.
The Dept of Fine Art & Applied Art offers taught undergraduate & post graduate programmes, masters and PHD research, alongside a range of dynamic adult education art process workshop courses; BA hons Fine Art BA hons Contemporary Applied Art (Ceramic, Glass & Textile) MA in Contemporary Art Practice MA by Research PHD P/T Adult Education; Textile Art, Drawing & Painting, Ceramics, Photography Portfolio Courses (pre-entry).
Duties of the Post: The Assistant Lecturer will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment, and academic administration.
The appointee should carry out such duties as are assigned by management including but not limited to: (a) Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by management of the Munster Technological University (herein after, the University), day or evening, up to 630 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students where appropriate, (b) Carrying out assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of examinations work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities, (c) Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course development, (d) Engaging in research, consultancy, and development work as appropriate, (e) Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings convened by management, (f) Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as required by management, (g) Engaging in promotion including student recruitment as appropriate, (h) Participating in the development, implementation, and maintenance of academic quality assurance arrangements, (I) Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of their department/school and of the University, (j) Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work.
When an Assistant Lecturer is supervising a Tutor/Demonstrator a reduction in teaching hours will be applied based on a one-hour reduction per three hours demonstration/tutorials supervised.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (a) Teaching & assessing students at all levels within Department of Fine Art & Applied Art.
(b) Responsible for teaching Glass specialism, and fostering creative, technical skills in areas such as kiln-forming, casting, & stained glass.
(c) Responsible for teaching student's techniques, history, and conceptual development of glass process.
(d) Responsible for workshop & studio health and safety, developing student inductions and ensuring students adhere to workshop guidelines.
(e) Contributing to the development, design and delivery of programmes and modules at various levels, including assessment methods, ensuring that the learning materials and methods of delivery meet defined learning objectives.
(f) Responsible for delivering curriculum, supporting curriculum and programme development relevant to art practices and industries.
(g) Teaching Glass process workshops to support range of art disciplines embracing innovative technologies, with consideration for sustainability and adhering to health and safety regulations.
(h) Teaching at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level to support student development within Department of Fine Art & Applied Art programme; research, concept development, testing & trialling, presentation methods, exhibition production, and display & professional transferrable skills.
The performance of these duties will require attendance in addition to class contact hours during the normal working week.
Teaching Hours: For the Assistant Lecturer level, the post is full-time requiring a maximum of 630 class contact hours per annum, with a norm of 18 class contact hours per week, which may be varied from 16 to 20 in consultation with the Assistant Lecturer.
A weighting of hours to apply to hours worked after 6.00 p.m.
The weighting to be 1.25.
The appointee shall carry out the lawful instructions of the President (or authorised Officer) and comply with the requirements and regulations of the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Qualification Requirements for role: Essential: A relevant level 8 Honours Primary Degree (second class or higher) in Art or Design discipline from a recognised degree awarding authority, majoring in degree level studies.
AND / OR An equivalent relevant professional qualification with Glass specialism obtained through examination.
AND Not less than three years of relevant work experience, where candidate can demonstrate working with glass process, at a professional level, after obtaining the above qualifications.
Desirable: A relevant post-graduate qualification, from a recognised degree awarding authority and/or relevant professional qualification obtained through examination.
Proven experience and expertise working with Glass within art &/or design practices.
Demonstrated engagement with individual research and art practice.
Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive teaching, learning and working environment, whose teaching and research will complement and enhance the Departments existing expertise.
Experienced professional artist with experience of working in higher education art programmes, responsive to the varied and specific needs of those on a strongly student-centred course.
engaged with current critical debates affecting art & design practices.
Excellent communication, confident in your ability to deal with a large and diverse student cohort, the applicant will be good at working collaboratively in a team, bringing great ideas and approaches to teaching and learning to support excellent pedagogy.
Remuneration: Salary scale effective 1 February 2026: Assistant Lecturer: New Entrant: €47,101.00 pa to €63,735.00 per annum.
Existing Public Sector Employees: €51,664.00 pa to €63,735.00 per annum.
The rate of remuneration for all appointments may be adjusted from time to time with government policy.

Additional Information: A successful candidate will be required to submit a passport, documentary evidence confirming academic qualifications, and to undergo a medical examination.
Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance may also be required.
