However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).OverviewWe are looking for aSenior Data Systems & Analystto cover maternity leave for the Senior Manager, Data Systems. This role is offered on a fixed term contract basis and we are open to applications also from self-employed/independent contractors. This person will take ownership of high-priority workflows, coordinate cross-functional teams, and maintain the technical backbone supporting XOCEAN's marine data lifecycle — from project bid to delivery, including automation, quality checks, ML-ready pipelines, and governance.You must be comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment, juggling urgent requests, managing a team, managing data pipelines, deploying cloud-based solutions, and maintaining standards across systems and teams.This is a strategic and hands-on role with broad exposure to Python, Power BI, AWS, Azure, data governance, marine operations data, and cross-team collaboration.Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesTechnical & AutomationMaintain and enhance end-to-end data pipelines connecting SharePoint (Excel), Azure SQL, AWS S3, and internal systems.Implement and optimize automation via Power Automate, PowerShell, and Python scripts for file handling, syncing, and logging.Build robust Power BI dashboards with advanced DAX, measures, and direct query models to support real-time operations, shift analysis, and forecasts.Handle versioning, syncing, and validation logic for live vs historical datasets, addressing schema changes and duplication issues.Own and improve data availability, data reliability, and shift-based scheduling logic for visualizations and reporting.Cloud & InfrastructureManage integrations across AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, and SQL environments.Lead troubleshooting and remediation of sync failures, permission/auth issues, and log discrepancies across file-based and cloud-based sources.Data Governance & StandardsEnforce data management best practices, including standardized naming, lifecycle rules, and metadata tagging across survey, sensor, and operational projects.Ensure compliance with internal governance frameworks and align data flows with business-critical milestones (e.g. survey kickoff, closeout, QA reviews).Project & Team CoordinationCoordinate across teams (Survey, Commercial, Data Processing, ML) to ensure data readiness, validation tracking, and automation continuity.Serve as standby escalation point during mission-critical survey periods, with the ability to step into cross-department coordination roles.Contribute to roadmap planning for in-house ML model deployment, QA analytics, and usage monitoring tools.Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience12-15 years in a senior tech role, analytics engineering, or data platform role.Strong coding proficiency in Python, SQL, PowerShell, and Power Query.Hands-on experience with Power BI (complex measures, dynamic slicers, time-based analysis).Deep working knowledge of AWS (S3, permissions, sync) and Azure (SQL, Data Factory or Logic Apps).Experience building and maintaining automated workflows for structured/unstructured data.Proven experience with data governance implementation, QA workflows, and operational reporting.Capable of independently driving initiatives and handling escalations with urgency and context.Familiarity with marine data, sensor logs, geospatial processing, or time-series analysis is a strong advantage.Desirable ExperienceExposure to ML lifecycle (feature pipeline, model integration).Experience working in survey, marine, energy, or offshore project environments.Proficiency in building and maintaining SharePoint-integrated workflows.Why Join Us?Be part of an innovative company transforming the marine data industry.Work on cutting-edge automation and data analytics projects.Collaborative and technology-driven work environment.Opportunity to grow into advanced analytics and ML roles.ApplyApplicants must demonstrate how they meet the essential criteria.
