Vine Surgery Partnership operates from a purpose built surgery with outstanding access for patients. A multi-disciplinary team of GPs, Advance Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic, Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Nurses, HCAs and Health Coaches look after our 13,200 patients across Street, Glastonbury and the surrounding area.
Job responsibilities
Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample
Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures
Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues
Ordering phlebotomy supplies to ensure constant supply
Checking clinical rooms to ensure all supplies are within date and re-stocking where necessary
Checking sharps bins and replacing when full. Sealing and labelling the bins and removing to the clinical waste bin for collection
Recording fridge temperatures and advising a member of the Nurse Team if any anomalies are noted
Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team in any phlebotomy queries
Conducting QOF reviews using Ardens templates and lifestyle issues addressed
Pulse and temperature checks
Urinalysis
Provision of lifestyle advice to patients and making appropriate referrals within the practice.
Weight management
Smoking advice
Liaising with the Cleaning Company regarding stock and ordering when required
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of working in a health setting is essential.
* Experience of working in primary care or general practice setting is desireable.
Qualifications
* Confirmation of competency in Phlebotomy
* Confirmation of Maths and English qualifications
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
