CNM 1 Surgical In-Patients - UPMC Aut Even Hospital Location: Aut Even Hospital Job type: Permanent Overview of role: The primary role of CNMI is to provide safe and effective care to patients, he/ she will play a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area.
The CNM I in collaboration with the CNMII will co-ordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Professional /Clinical The CNM1 will: Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.
Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of patient care by all staff in designated area.
Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).
Participate in team meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members as required.
Collaborate with patients, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care.
Manage and access all documents, policies and procedures and report incidents and complaints through our hospital quality management system - Q-Pulse.
Assess, Plan, Implement and Evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
Ensure that the care delivered by team is based on standards, which have been formulated on evidence based practice, and agreed, through hospital policy.
Develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
Evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department in conjunction with the line manager.
Ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.
Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.
Encourage evidence based practice, using a care planning approach to nursing care.
Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / care programs and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with hospital policy.
Lean or play an active role in discharge planning of the patient.
Assist in providing staff leadership and motivation, which is conducive to good staff relations and work performance Managerial Responsibilities: The CNMIwill provide the necessarysupervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff toensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area throughallocating work fairly and competently and will exercise authority inthe running of the assigned area(s) as deputised by the CNMII.
Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the CNMII and deputising in his / her absence when required to do so.
Manage communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building.
Provide staff leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance.
Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.
Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
Lead and implement change.
Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures.
Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements To ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place for the clinical area.
On- call Rota: The post holder will be expected to take part in theon call manager's rota as the role develops Personnel: Followuniform policy reference General: Through the course of the working day or week there maybe a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by your line manager/deputy or nurse management.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience: Qualifications: Be registered in the General Division of the liver Register of Nurses kept by NMBI Have completed a management course or commit to undertake same.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience within a Medical/Surgical environment.
Previous management experience is desirable.
Have some experienceof change management Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge: Display evidence of continuing professional development.
Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is an advantage.
Possess excellent Communication skills.
Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
