Job Overview
We are looking for a proactive and skilled Facilities & Maintenance Technician/Engineer to support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems, utilities, and equipment across our facilities. The role is essential to maintaining mission-critical infrastructure in a telecoms/data center environment. The right candidate will help ensure the continuous operation of critical systems such as standby diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
Your Role
· Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
· Candidates will be required to contribute to the 24/7/365 on-call rota. This currently has six members sharing the weekly rota.
· Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance work assignments requiring the skill and direction of several engineering, mechanical, and maintenance trades.
· Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, i.e., HVAC, electrical distribution, and maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions.
· Rapid response, investigation, and management of emergency situations
· Have a complete working knowledge of creating, closing, and tracking work orders. Initiate or respond to work orders, follow up and verify completion of work.
· Monitor performance/note deficiencies of service contractors and recommend changes as necessary.
· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance on facility systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general building services.
· Troubleshoot and repair equipment such as air handling units, boilers, chillers, pumps, and lighting systems.
· Monitor and maintain Building Management Systems (BMS) or Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
· Conduct facility inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
· Respond promptly to maintenance requests and facility-related issues raised by staff or operations teams.
· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
· Assist with sub-contractor supervision and coordination during facility upgrades or shutdowns.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to energy efficiency, reliability, and safety.
· Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience
· QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft - Electrical - Required.
· Relevant experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment and building systems.
· Switching Experience
· In-depth technical understanding and knowledge of all electrical & HVAC systems.
· Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air Handling Units, CRAC units fire/life safety, and control systems.
· Good observation skills and problem-solving ability.
· Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Experience
· Experience working in regulated environments (GMP, healthcare, data centers, or cleanrooms).
· Certification in electrical, plumbing, or refrigeration trades.
· Knowledge of safety regulations such as OSHA, HSE, or equivalent.
· Experience supporting critical systems such as UPS, generators, clean utilities, or lab environments.
