Title and Summary Sr Principal Software Engineer Overview: Architecture & Technology (A&T) is a team of specialists and senior engineers who collaborate across Mastercard programs and teams.
We focus on reviewing, teaching, establishing policies, and helping teams solve complex problems.
Our expertise includes security, design for operability and customer experience, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
We maintain open contribution documents for policies like Engineering Principles, Software Development Lifecycle, External Cloud Policy, and more.
We also curate libraries of code to accelerate engineering efforts and reduce redundancy.
The Role: As a Sr Principal Software Engineer in A&T, you will engage with Mastercard engineering teams, contribute to patterns, frameworks, proof-of-concepts, policies, standards, and shared libraries.
You may lead initiatives or serve as an advisor, mentoring teams and reviewing code.
Your work spans various parts of the company and layers of the technology stack, from leading technical due diligence for acquisitions to modernizing critical payment applications or working on distributed computing platforms.
Responsibilities include:
Leading complex enterprise-wide initiatives and resolving issues.
Architecting and delivering new services in collaboration with business/product owners.
Driving initiatives to improve software craftsmanship.
Designing architecture, including service interactions and policies.
Enhancing customer experience across services and applications.
Optimizing functions, services, and architecture strategies for cost and benefit.
Balancing trade-offs using judgment and experience.
Taking on diverse assignments across software engineering areas.
Participating in public speaking, publishing white papers and blogs on technical topics.
Identifying and promoting reuse and synergies across teams.
Recommending promotions based on achievements.
Conducting technical interviews and raising engineering standards.
Mentoring engineers and leaders to improve productivity and compliance.
Engaging with external communities and leading architecture meetings.
Mentoring Principal Engineers and setting strategic agendas.
Skills and Experiences include leadership of large projects, technical influence, cross-functional collaboration, expertise in multiple programming languages, security standards, OS internals, design patterns, API standards, full-stack development, DevOps, performance engineering, cloud architecture, and effective communication of complex architectures.
