About the business
My client is a large, established Irish business operating across multiple commercial sectors nationwide. The HR function supports a large, dispersed workforce across a wide range of sites.
The role
Reporting to the Head of HR, this is a senior leadership position with real operational weight. The successful candidate will take day‑to‑day ownership of a team of 10 across HR and L&D, deputise for the Head of HR when required, and lead on significant contract mobilisation activity from an HR perspective. This is not a figurehead role – the person coming in will carry their own workload alongside their leadership responsibilities. The business is looking for someone who could step up to Head of HR level, but who is equally comfortable rolling their sleeves up and doing the work themselves.
What you'll be doing
Lead, manage and develop a team of 10 across HR and L&D
Act as deputy for the Head of HR, providing continuity and consistent standards across the business
Take ownership of the HR workstream for contract mobilisation activity, including supporting high‑volume recruitment and onboarding of a large operative workforce
Manage TUPE processes from end to end – consultation, compliance, transition and integration of incoming employees
Handle complex Employee Relations and Industrial Relations cases, including WRC matters
Oversee grievance, disciplinary, absence management and performance processes
Keep HR policies and procedures current, compliant with Irish employment legislation, and consistently applied across the business
Manage HR reporting, systems and administration to the required standard
Work closely with operations, payroll, finance and the manpower/recruitment team
Contribute to workforce planning, succession planning and organisational development activity
Collaborate with L&D on training, development and compliance programmes
Lead employer branding and employee engagement initiatives that support attraction, retention and culture
What we're looking for
Third‑level qualification in HR or a related field
Experience working in an organisation of 500+ employees
Proven track record of leading and developing an HR team
Strong Employee Relations and Industrial Relations experience, including handling complex cases
Experience managing TUPE transfers
Comfortable working across multiple sites with flexibility to travel
CIPD membership or equivalent
Background in cleaning, facilities management, healthcare or similarly fast‑paced, high‑turnover environments
Multi‑site HR experience
Healthcare mobilisation or contract transition experience
Experience working in or alongside WRC proceedings and Labour Court matters
