The EHS Specialist is responsible for leading and continuously improving environmental, health, and safety performance. The role ensures full compliance with applicable legislation, corporate standards, and ISO 14001 requirements, while driving a proactive safety culture and environmental stewardship across the site. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the EHS Specialist will act as a key advisor to site leadership and play a central role in risk management, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure site compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health & Safety legislation, including HSA and EPA requirements.
Maintain and continuously improve the Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001 standards.
Set ISO 14001 objectives and track progress to completion. Maintain ISO 14001 Registers and KPI’s.
Responsible for development, implementation, communication and maintenance of EHS policies, programs and standard operating procedures (SOP’s); to ensure the organization is complaint with health and safety legislation, HSA (Health & Safety Authority), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Corporate Standards; to reduce and prevent hazards, environmental impacts and injuries.
Liaise with on‑site contractors to ensure their compliance with company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards.
Oversee a permitting system that includes documents Job Safety Analysis (JSA) along with ensuring routine tasks have been assessed for risk.
Development, tracking and reporting of site EHS goals and key metrics to prevent undesired events and incidents.
Identify training needs, organise and coordinate training courses and prepare training material where appropriate.
Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards, investigate root causes, and identify corrective and preventative actions and report to management.
Conduct surveys and audits, to identify and minimise risks to company and employees and Act as Management Representative during external audits and regulatory inspections.
Performs accident / incident management activities including associated record‑keeping.
Lead site risk assessment programmes (task‑based, process, and project‑related).
Support delivery of corporate EHS strategy at site level.
Review planning and installation / modifications of plant equipment / projects to ensure in compliance with current legislated and corporate requirements.
Assist with the preparation of emergency / contingency plans, review and update emergency procedures and training with key staff. Including organising and leading Emergency Response Teams and facilitating Emergency Response Plan (ERP) drills as required.
Participate in all Corporate EHS committees and activities, complete all site Corporate EHS reporting.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Health & Safety
Strong training skills. Preferably holding QQI Level 6 Train the Trainer or equivalent.
8 years' experience in a similar position within the manufacturing industry. Preferably in injection moulding / manufacturing industry.
Knowledge of ISO 45001 (highly advantageous).
Experience with work on Engineering Projects and New Product Introduction (NPI) Projects.
Strong Microsoft Office knowledge, especially the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
