Graduate Economist Salary: €39,083 - €78,830 Background As part of the ongoing investment in existing national transport networks and delivery of a nationwide programme of capital investment projects, applications are invited for the position of Graduate Economist within the Strategic and Transport Planning Department of Transport Infrastructure Ireland. The post holder will report to the Head of Strategic and Transport Planning. This role will involve mentorship and hands on opportunities to build expertise in strategic and transport planning through actively participating in a variety of projects and initiatives. ROLE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in ensuring the department meets its annual business plan objectives. Support the technical review of materials delivered by transport planning and economic advisers. Develop processes and techniques for data analysis and appraisal of transport projects Analyse data to identify economic trends in demand for transport services and profile transport system users and their decision making Develop material to communicate and disseminate findings, both internally and through external channels. Collaborate with team members, other divisions, and external stakeholders. Present information clearly and effectively. Maintain professional relationships and network with other relevant organisations Assist the Head of Strategic and Transport Planning in fulfilling annual business plan objectives. Contribute to the development of economic appraisal guidelines to be applied to TII projects Analyse data to identify economic aspects of trends in usage of TII transport systems Collaborate with team members, other divisions, and external stakeholders. Present and report information clearly and effectively. Develop professional relationships across TII and partner stakeholders All of the divisions within TII have inter-dependent responsibilities and close cooperation and teamwork is required across the organisation. Note: The functions and responsibilities assigned to this position are based on the current stated role and may be changed from time to time. The person appointed will be required to demonstrate the flexibility necessary to fulfil other roles and responsibilities at a similar grade within TII and may be assigned to other such roles as business needs arise. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Character Each candidate must be of good character. Health A candidate for and any person holding the role must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties attached to the role and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service Education & Experience The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the key competencies for a Grade 3 position, as well as the following experience and job-specific requirements: A Degree or third-level professional qualification (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in economics, transport, social geography, sustainability, statistics, mathematics, business or similar. If you are a final year student who has recently completed exams you will be eligible to apply, however you will be required to provide proof of having achieved your qualification before any offer of employment can be made Experience in research, data analysis, or report writing. General understanding of economics relevant to capital investment Highly numerate with strong analytical skills. Ability to multitask across multiple projects. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective team player with the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships. Fluency in English, both written and oral. Desirable Requirements Interest in the transport sector Interest in transport or economic modelling. Experience in preparing presentations and reports.
