Job Title: Financial Controller
My client, a well-established multi-site retail and eCommerce business based in the Midlands, is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with over 5 years of experience at FC level in Retail or eCommerce. Key responsibilities include providing financial leadership, overseeing ERP implementation, ensuring accurate reporting, and acting as the primary financial contact for the STL. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and a commercial mindset to drive strategy and maintain strong financial controls. This is a permanent, full-time onsite position, with transition to hybrid working after establishment. A competitive salary and benefits package are offered.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage daily finance operations
2. Ensure efficient, cost-effective supplier payments weekly
3. Prepare accounts for audit
4. Create, monitor, and report weekly/monthly dashboards for operational performance to SLT
5. Design projects to replace manual processes with automation
6. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flows
7. Collaborate with the buying team to optimize seasonal supplier budgets for maximum gross profit
8. Manage labour budgets and planning
9. Drive quarter-end processes
10. Coordinate with colleagues for accurate financial reporting across departments
11. Ensure accuracy of Balance Sheet accounts, addressing issues promptly
12. Provide commentary on Balance Sheet and P&L variances to budget
13. Conduct analytical reviews of key expense variances, with recommendations
14. Deliver high-quality financial reports and trend analyses for performance improvement
15. Manage capex spending, ROI, and cost/benefit analyses, reporting monthly
16. Conduct monthly budget accuracy reviews
17. Produce timely department margin analyses
18. Disseminate business data to branches and departments to enhance net margins
19. Oversee tax compliance, collaborating with external tax advisors
20. Liaise with external auditors for financial statement audits
21. Prepare statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE, PRSI
22. Prepare annual financial statements
Requirements:
1. Experience in Retail or eCommerce (Essential)
2. Good knowledge of local accounting standards, IFRS, and payroll calculations
3. ERP implementation experience (Desirable)
4. Experience in group reporting according to deadlines
5. Proven record of implementing change and new processes in finance
