We are currently looking for a Design Director: Live Service & Meta in Ireland. This is a senior design leadership role focused on shaping the long-term player experience for a AAA, cross‑platform competitive game with a strong emphasis on live service systems and meta‑game design. You will define and evolve how players engage with progression, retention, monetisation, and seasonal content over time. The role combines strategic vision with hands‑on design contribution, requiring the ability to move seamlessly between high‑level direction and detailed execution. You will work closely with product, production, engineering, and creative teams to build scalable systems that support ongoing content delivery and player engagement. In parallel, you will help lead and grow a design team responsible for systems, content, and live operations. This is a highly collaborative and iterative environment where player data, feedback, and live performance continuously shape the product.
Accountabilities
Define and evolve the design vision for live service systems, meta‑game structures, and long‑term player engagement strategies
Contribute hands‑on to feature design, documentation, and detailed player‑facing system development
Build scalable frameworks for seasonal content, events, progression systems, and live operations
Partner closely with Product teams to align on features, goals, operational planning, and content strategy
Collaborate with Creative, Franchise, and Product stakeholders to shape seasonal themes and overall game vision
Work cross‑functionally with Engineering, Art, UX, and Production to deliver high‑quality features and content
Establish and improve design processes, workflows, and best practices for live service development
Lead, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary design team across systems, content, and gameplay areas
Drive continuous iteration using player data, live performance metrics, and community feedback
Requirements
Extensive experience in game design, including deep involvement in live service systems and player progression design
Proven background working on live service or continuously evolving multiplayer/competitive games
Strong ability to define and deliver end‑to‑end feature visions from concept through live operations
Hands‑on design capability with experience producing detailed design documentation and execution work
Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills across Product, Engineering, Art, UX, and Production teams
Experience designing and managing content systems, live events, or ongoing player engagement loops
Strong understanding of player motivation, retention systems, and engagement design principles
Proven leadership or mentorship experience within design teams, with measurable impact on quality and output
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong passion for building high‑quality, player‑centric game experiences
