Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, the Maintenance & Calibration Lead is primarily responsible for:

Reliability of all engineering assets onsite, providing maintenance and calibration support in all areas.
Managing the maintenance team including technicians assigned from facility management contractor.
Being the dedicated owner and SME for all equipment external to the clean areas.
Managing the calibration program and engineering safety programs.
Providing SME support and participating in regulatory inspections.
Managing vendor support for all systems on site.
Managing engineering maintenance budget.

Roles and Responsibilities

Effective cross‑functional collaboration with internal partners and external contractors.
Commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence at competitive cost.
Ownership and tracking of engineering KPIs for all associated areas.
Manage all maintenance engineering activities and utility activities to meet manufacturing schedules while maintaining GMP compliance and cost efficiency.
Manage planned and unplanned works on equipment and the maintenance program activities.
Manage utility equipment activities and maintenance program in CPMF and Admin/GDE.
Manage and prioritise preventive maintenance schedule and technician work across process and utility equipment.
Cross‑train technicians to utilise resources across multiple areas.
Optimize the preventive maintenance program and improve job plan content.
Implement reliability improvement initiatives and develop area equipment improvement plans.
Support on‑call engineering process.
Manage engineering maintenance budget; own financial aspects including budgeting and forecasting.
Identify cost‑saving opportunities while maintaining compliance and quality.
Provide financial updates to site leadership.
Manage the calibration program.
Sponsor engineering safety programs (Hazardous energies, Confined space, NDT/Inspection, Pressure equipment directive) and deliver regulatory program commitments.
Support Manufacturing, Validation and Maintenance on process and utility systems.
Provide engineering expertise for troubleshooting, process transfer activities and deviation investigations.
Lead system improvements, development of specifications, engineering documentation and SOPs.
Identify and support process optimisation initiatives.
Research new processes and systems with approved vendors and implement them under Operations Manager direction.
Advocate for engineering continuous improvement, ownership of equipment in GMP setting.
Lead troubleshooting and coaching of engineering, maintenance and operations staff.
Lead root cause analysis and incident investigations for utility equipment.
Support a safe working environment by complying with environmental health and safety practice.
Improve engineering programme compliance, performance and reliability through technical knowledge and leadership.
Improve validated equipment system compliance, performance and reliability through technical knowledge and leadership.

Experience, Qualifications And Education Requirements

Third level degree in Process Engineering or similar discipline.
Minimum 10 years relevant experience in a technical engineering management role in the Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology industry.
Evidence of continuous professional development.
Team leadership experience.
Experience prioritising resource and time allocation.
Experience applying lean principles and structured problem‑solving techniques.

Competencies / Preferred Skills

Strong technical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork and initiative.
Ability to work effectively with vendors and resolve issues in a timely structured manner.
Organised analytical thinker with strong attention to detail.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
Experience managing department budget.
Experience managing engineering reliability optimisation programs.
Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to present and explain data to technical and non‑technical audiences.
Collaborative teamwork philosophy and positive interaction with others.
Mature judgment in problem‑solving situations.
Independent decision‑making with strong results orientation.
Rigorous attention to detail.
