Medical Scientist, Histology – Beaumont Hospital
Location: Beaumont Hospital & Affiliated Sites. Employment type: Full-time, 35 hours per week. Closing date: 12 Noon on 24/09/2025. Salary: Medical Scientist Scale (€44,331 - €72,268, LSI1 €73,667) at a point in line with Government pay policy. Reports to: Chief Medical Scientist / Senior Medical Scientist in charge.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the laboratory working roster encompassing working hours and luncheon intervals.
* Report to the Chief Medical Scientist in the Histo/Neuropathology Department and/or to the designated Senior Medical Scientist in charge on a day-to-day basis.
* Perform Histo/Neuropathology work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.
* Participate in training staff and students as required.
* Ensure compliance with International and National Guidelines and Standards for the Histo/Neuropathology Lab service; actively participate in Internal and External Quality Control.
* Promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the post.
* Co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumables and research projects.
* Maintain confidentiality with patient or hospital information.
* Assist in ensuring effective safety procedures in line with Health and Safety at Work Act.
* Assist and co-operate with the Laboratory Management team in developing procedures to prevent and manage accidents in the work area.
* Prepare and stain specimens for histological evaluation according to standard SOPs.
* Carry out other duties appropriate to the office as assigned in consultation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist/Senior in charge and in line with MF-GEN-0098.
* Comply with ISO15189 requirements in all department activities.
Selection Criteria & Qualifications
Mandatory:
* Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
* Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Have the requisite knowledge and ability for proper discharge of duties; provide proof of Statutory Registration on CORU before a contract of employment can be issued (Section 38 applicants may apply as applicable).
* Possess good character and be in a state of health appropriate for regular and efficient service.
