Role Summary
The Music Department at Maynooth University invites applications for a 12-month position working with Professor Karen Desmond's research team on the project 'Polyphonic Singing and Communities of Music Writing in Medieval Britain and Ireland, c. **** to c. ****' (BROKENSONG), funded by a 5-year ERC Consolidator Grant (/).
The position is full-time, though part-time arrangements may be considered.
The place of work is Maynooth University, Ireland; remote work from another country cannot be facilitated.
Responsibilities
Process multispectral images (MSI) of medieval manuscript pages using HOKU/ENVI and other tools to enhance legibility of music notation.
Create and manage workflow for image post-processing.
Describe and document image data and metadata, compiling a data sheet for each set of images.
Upload and document raw and processed images to the project's open-source repository (Xenodo or OpenAire platform).
Upload or create links to post-processed images on the project's GitHub so they are accessible via the project website.
Assist the project team on research trips to the UK, helping to capture multispectral images of manuscripts.
Qualifications
Extensive experience in scientific image processing.
Knowledge or aptitude to quickly learn multispectral imaging (MSI) standards and processing techniques.
Ability to work independently with raw image files and to organise and document research data in an open-source repository.
