Electrical Design Engineer Job Description:

* The Electrical Design Manager is responsible for leading the development of electrical designs and ensuring they meet the required quality standards, project schedules, and budgets.
* They will manage a team of design engineers to ensure all design works meet the required quality standards, project schedules, and budgets.
* Collaboration with other engineering disciplines such as Process, Mechanical, Control & Automation, Civil, and Structural is crucial to achieve an optimum design solution.
* Liaising with project teams ensures that design works include site surveys and condition reports as required.
* Maintenance and Installation Listings are also part of the role.
* Electrical load balances, MIC load calculations, Medium Voltage design, Generator design and sizing for backup applications, general electrical services design, Lighting and emergency lighting designs, Earthing and Lightning protection designs, Cable sizing/cable schedules, and Review I/O of listings are some of the key responsibilities.
* Reviewing control panel drawings schematics and specialist reports on harmonics and selecting equipment to mitigate harmonics are also essential tasks.
* Solar PV generation and battery storage and renewable generators for small applications require expertise in this area.
* Leading Design Risk Reviews ensures that design works meet Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability, and Quality standards.
* Undertaking site surveys and preliminary condition reports on existing infrastructure/assets are necessary for informed decision-making.
* Procurement of packages for LV works such as Main Distribution Boards, MCCs, and control panels, automation hardware/software, starters, electrical installation works, earthing, and lightning protection requires technical knowledge.
* Similarly, procurement packages for MV works such as distribution transformers, MV switchgear, and specialist design services for MV works need expertise in this area.
* Managing third-party design consultants and providing a technical and commercial review of tender returns are also part of the role.
* Preparation of detailed handovers to site delivery teams and close-out of any design comments or construction-related queries are essential tasks.
* Assisting the tendering team in preparing and pricing tender submissions for electrical works is another key responsibility.
* Promoting and advocating key themes from our business strategy, including off-site manufacturing, digitalized ways of working, and sustainability, are important aspects of the role.
* Encouraging innovative technology and ways of working within the team and harnessing opportunities while mitigating risk through effective design and risk mitigation measures are also critical.
* Ensuring adherence to local Asset Standards, Electrical Standards, WIMES, etc. and embedding requirements into respective designs are necessary.
* Staying updated on the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD) is vital.

Requirements:

* A Level 7/8 Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in the Water & Wastewater sector, is essential.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
* Strong planning, organizational, training, teamwork, problem-resolution, and presentation skills are also required.
* Excellent literacy, numeric, and IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk packages, are necessary.
* Working knowledge of Trimble ProDesign (Amtech) or ETAP calculation software is an advantage.
* A full clean driving license is also required.

Other Responsibilities:

* Additional duties may be assigned from time to time.
* For specific projects, you may also be required to fulfill the role of Senior Electrical Project Engineer at site.
* Ensuring Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards are always adhered to on-site is essential.
* Management of site personnel and subcontractors to ensure work is conducted according to design documentation and contract programme is necessary.
* Co-ordination of project close-out stages, including handover to the end user, is also critical.
* Preparation and submission of project handover files, including as-built drawings and control panel drawings schematics post-commissioning, are essential tasks.
