About the Role:
The Principal Ecologist will play a pivotal role in driving forward ecological services, overseeing environmental projects, and providing expert advice on biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project Delivery Leadership: Lead and manage ecological surveys, assessments, and biodiversity plans for various projects, including infrastructure developments, construction, and land-use projects.
* Expert Ecological Advice: Provide expert ecological advice on planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Habitats Directive Assessments (HDA), and other environmental consents.
* Report Preparation: Oversee the preparation and review of high-quality ecological reports, including mitigation strategies, biodiversity action plans, and species protection plans.
* Client Relationship Management: Manage and develop client relationships, acting as the key point of contact for ecological matters, ensuring clear communication and project updates.
* Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of ecologists, supporting their professional development and fostering a collaborative working environment.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with Irish and EU environmental regulations.
* Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with internal teams to provide integrated solutions balancing development and ecological considerations.
* Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with advancements in ecological best practices and policy changes in Ireland and Europe.
* Business Development: Undertake business development activities, including preparing tenders and expanding the ecological service offering.
* External Representation: Represent the company at public consultations and stakeholder meetings.
Requirements:
* A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification preferred).
* Minimum 8-10 years of experience in ecological consultancy or a similar role, with a proven track record in project management.
* Full membership of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
* Comprehensive knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and guidelines.
* Demonstrable experience in leading and delivering Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), and other related ecological reports.
