Role Description
Farran is looking for a talented, result‑driven professional to work in the multidisciplinary engineering team as a Senior / Lead Design Engineer. You will be at the forefront of R&D, developing components and subsystems based on various semiconductor technologies, for applications spanning 20 – 500 GHz frequency range, and be expected to venture and innovate in the space of emerging technologies as well.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will have the following responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership in the design, analysis, and testing of RF, microwave, and millimeter‑wave components and subsystems, taking ownership of technical decisions from concept through validation.
Drive engineering decisions by balancing performance, risk, cost, and schedule, and clearly articulating trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Act as technical authority and primary interface for customers, vendors, partners, and academic/R&D institutions, representing the company with credibility and confidence.
Lead technical work packages and projects, defining scope, milestones, and priorities, and ensuring timely delivery of agreed outcomes.
Mentor and support less‑experienced engineers, providing guidance on technical approaches, problem‑solving, and professional development.
Collaborate closely with Sales & Marketing to translate customer needs into clear, achievable product requirements and to provide technical input into proposals, bids, and roadmaps.
Influence product and technology strategy, contributing to medium‑ and long‑term planning aligned with market needs and business objectives.
Generate high‑quality technical documentation, including design reports, test reports, product documentation, and internal best‑practice guidelines.
Prepare and contribute to grant applications and collaborative R&D proposals, including technical narratives, work plans, and risk assessments.
Represent the company at exhibitions, conferences, and technical forums as a subject‑matter expert (occasional travel).

Qualifications

Master’s or PhD degree in Electronics, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
Significant hands‑on experience in specifying, designing, and testing RF/microwave and/or millimeter‑wave components and systems.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical work, make decisions under uncertainty, and take responsibility for outcomes.
High proficiency with electromagnetic and system modelling tools such as HFSS and ADS (preferred), or CST and AWR.
Strong expertise in RF measurement techniques, with advanced proficiency using spectrum analysers, VNAs, signal generators, power meters, and related test equipment.
Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, management, and customers.
Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a structured and pragmatic approach.
Strong self‑organisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to agreed timelines.
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Experience acting as a technical lead or mentor within an engineering team.
Exposure to project planning or technical project management, including estimation, scheduling, and risk management.
Track record of influencing product direction or business decisions through technical insight.
Experience working directly with customers or external partners in a technical leadership capacity.
Knowledge of mm‑wave applications such as radar, satellite communications, or test & measurement systems.
•Experience contributing to or leading collaborative R&D or grant‑funded projects.
Knowledge of an additional language.
