Divisional Manager – Busbar, Cable Pulling & Lightning Protection
Role Overview
The Divisional Manager oversees and leads all operational, technical, and commercial activities related to busbar installation systems, cable pulling works, and lightning protection systems. The role ensures projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards while managing teams, subcontractors, and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
* Plan, coordinate, and manage installation of
busbar trunking systems
,
LV/MV cable pulling
, and
lightning protection systems
.
* Ensure compliance with project specifications, IFC drawings, and industry standards (IEC, NEC, BS, NFPA, etc.).
* Monitor progress and resolve technical or site issues promptly.
* Review method statements, risk assessments, and work schedules.
Technical Leadership
* Provide expert guidance on routing, sizing, termination, and commissioning of busbar and cable systems.
* Approve technical submittals, shop drawings, and as-built documentation.
* Ensure proper testing & commissioning: continuity tests, insulation resistance, hi-pot testing, earthing tests, and lightning protection checks.
Team & Resource Management
* Lead engineers, supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors.
* Allocate manpower, tools, and equipment effectively.
* Conduct training to improve workforce skill sets and safety culture.
Commercial & Financial Control
* Prepare BOQs, cost estimates, and budget forecasts.
* Monitor material usage, wastage, and optimize procurement strategies.
* Support tendering processes and attend technical/commercial meetings.
Quality, Health & Safety
* Ensure all works follow HSE policies, permit-to-work systems, and safe work practices.
* Conduct toolbox talks, site inspections, and safety audits.
* Ensure installation meets QA/QC requirements and passes consultant inspections.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
* Liaise with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and project managers.
* Attend progress and coordination meetings.
* Provide regular reports on progress, risks, and resource needs.
Required Skills & Competencies
* Strong technical knowledge of busbar systems (Schneider, ABB, LS, etc.).
* Expertise in LV/MV cable routing, pulling techniques, and termination.
* Comprehensive understanding of lightning protection & earthing systems.
* Leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
* Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera, and site documentation.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
* 8–15+ years experience in busbar/cable installation and lightning protection works.
* Safety certifications such as NEBOSH/IOSH (added advantage).
