Physiotherapist - UPMC Waterford Location: Sports Medicine- SETU Arena Job type: Permanent Overview of role: The role of the Physiotherapist is to provide excellent patient care and treatment within the Physiotherapy Department, ensuring that best practice procedures, standards and protocols are adhered to and implemented at all times. The physiotherapist will work closely with medical, nursing and allied healthcare professionals to provide a planned, coordinated approach to treatment. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities: Actively participate in organizing and co-ordinating the work of the Physiotherapy Department, ensuring the provision of a comprehensive, high quality service. Ensure a safe environment is maintained for patients, staff and visitors in conjunction with the hospital Health and Safety policies. To keep informed of any changes to the hospital's strategic plan and ensure work practices are in accordance with this. To actively participate on the Allied Health Professional Group Meetings where necessary. To assist in risk management programme for the physiotherapy department or as part of the wider multi disciplinary team. To ensure that professional and personal training needs are fulfilled in order to provide that optimum service. To facilitate the sharing of information and continuous professional development through in-service programmes. To ensure effective intra and inter departmental communication. To participate in training programmes, conferences and committees as required. To promote the Physiotherapy Department liaising with other Physiotherapists and keeping abreast of changes and happenings in other similar facilities. To facilitate and encourage continuous quality improvement. To encourage the pursuit of clinical excellence. Agree with team members the allocation of tasks to achieve the best use of the skills of team members. To liaise with the Physiotherapy Manager to become familiar with and develop a thorough understanding of accreditation/clinical standards from a physiotherapy perspective. Access all documents, policies and procedures and report incidents and complaints through our hospital quality management system Q-Pulse. Clinical Duties: Co-ordination of Patient Care: To participate in the provision of on-call and weekend physiotherapy services for the hospital. To liaise with all staff and assist and rotate to other areas when required. To report pertinent observations and relevant changes in clinical status regarding patients to medical and/or nursing personnel and to record these observations and actions. Contribute and support the quality and patient safety agenda. To fully participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team: To participate in team meetings/case conferences. Communicate to other team members the relevant patient information to ensure that treatment is as seamless and as continuous as possible. Organization and Development: To keep abreast of changes and developments in the practice of physiotherapy and to ensure that best evidence practice is pursued. Actively participate in changes to work practice, procedures, techniques and technologies having regard to developments in the field of Physiotherapy in accordance with agreed core standards and quality assurance programmes. Participate and implement skills learned in the Manual Handling Training Programme. Be actively involved in quality initiatives on a hospital wide basis. Maintain, develop and enlarge own professional knowledge, skills and aptitudes to respond to a rapidly changing healthcare environment and service. Participate in continuing education and research activities consistent with the position. To supervisor Physiotherapy students, as required Audit and Research: Initiates, participates in and evaluates audit. To ensure clinical Physiotherapy activities are evidence based. To initiate and participate in research projects with other health care professionals with a view to improving the care delivered. To evaluate current research in physiotherapy treatments and make recommendations for implementation as appropriate. Qualifications & Experience: Qualifications: BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent Membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. Member of an ISCP special interest group CORU registration or evidence of application of same. Experience: A minimum of two years post qualification clinical experience. Demonstrate sufficient clinical knowledge and evidence based practice in the management of Respiratory, Medical and Orthopaedic case loads. Demonstrate sufficient experience working in a multi-disciplinary team. Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge: Evidence of professional development in the area of physiotherapy. Knowledge of the Irish Private Hospital setting. Understanding and experience of audit and clinical effectiveness. Demonstrate excellent listening and verbal communication skills Display effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with other disciplines Display awareness and appreciation of the service users and the ability to empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect. Demonstrate flexibility with regards to work duties and work patterns. Willingness to take on additional responsibility as required.
