Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Data Centre Design Manager to join its Data Centre Design Engineering team in Dublin, Ireland.
Our team is responsible for achieving world‑class uptime for our customers and driving the development of a fleet of buildings that emphasize security, safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness, while finding new ways to meet AWS’s growing demand.
As a Senior DC Design Manager at AWS you will lead designs for AWS Data Centres in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. You will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of architects, engineers, and designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure; we support all AWS data centres and all of the servers, storage, networking, power and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
Key Job Responsibilities
Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during and after construction.
Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design as well as collecting data from construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented. Establishing capital project design budgets and contributing to complex business cases for existing region and new region deployment. Collaborating with AWS finance teams to secure funding for projects.
Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule engineering resources and influence design changes based on internal customer needs.
Partnering with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables. Create, review and release design RFPs. Manage external design consultants through the design and construction process. Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls and Cabling design engineers.
Think outside the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during construction to reduce costs and schedule without negative impacts on quality or reliability. Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
Engage and manage the work of permitting and design consultants.
Complete after‑action reviews and identify opportunities for process improvement.
A Day in the Life
As a Senior Design Manager you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective architects, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and control engineers delivering capacity projects across the Europe, Middle East & Africa geography. This role is an opportunity to collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization, external engineering resources and regulatory agencies.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
Knowledge of critical data centre mechanical and electrical equipment.
Experience in data centre design, construction, operations or facility maintenance.
Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities including data centres, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or experience in project management.
Experience engaging with regulatory agencies in permit applications or equivalent.
Experience in project management in data centres or comparable critical infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
