Role: Senior / Lead Electrical Engineer
Location: Limerick, Ireland
Type: Technical / Contract
Start: January 2026 (or ASAP)
Hours: 40 hours/week (Mon–Fri), standard timesheet schedule
Duration: Initial 12-month contract with potential extension
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Lead Electrical Engineer to work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting new and existing equipment within a high-volume manufacturing environment. The role involves taking ownership of all electrical aspects of machinery design, power distribution, controls, and commissioning.
This position requires a candidate who is comfortable leading technically, capable of independent decision-making, and motivated to drive continuous improvement within a dynamic, fast‑paced manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and review the development, testing, and installation of electrical distribution and machine control systems in a highly automated, 24/7 production environment
Provide technical guidance within cross-functional project teams, including input on electrical design architecture and hardware selection
Support troubleshooting and fault‑finding of complex electrical systems and automation equipment
Maintain electrical documentation to regulated industry standards
Review vendor equipment for technical compliance and electrical specification requirements
Conduct commissioning assessments and sign‑off of new or modified electrical installations
Contribute to the development and updating of site‑wide electrical requirements, standards, and documentation
Assist in improving electrical power‑up processes and addressing technical queries
Maintain oversight of drawing management systems and software licensing
Support and mentor other electrical engineers to ensure consistently high engineering standards
Experience & Education
Level 8 Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
Strong understanding of Irish and international electrical standards and best practices
Demonstrated experience with LV Distribution and MCC systems
Skilled in 24V control and automation system design
Proficiency in drawing packages such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, Vault etc.
Experience with cable sizing and calculation tools (manual or software such as Amtech)
Previous work with fully automated production machinery
Proven track record in a senior or lead electrical engineering role
Experience in large‑scale manufacturing environments is highly desirable
Excellent time management and prioritisation abilities
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Able to work independently and collaboratively
Comfortable operating in a high‑pace setting
Confident working autonomously
Self‑driven with a continuous improvement mindset
Additional information
Will be mostly onsite, not hybrid, each week. Reviewing governance and oversight of all electrical activities across the manufacturing floor.
Have vendors, engineers, and contractors performing activities across the site, all overseen by the lead electrical engineer, working towards compliance.
Covering all equipment and production lines. Responsible for drawing – strategy, reviews, and engagement with vendors and installation.
Administrative and then the compliance part of the role.
Also doing visual inspections of the equipment and writing reports. Whole safety process onsite too – tasked with reviewing for this. Everything from the in‑person check and offering guidance and support to engineers and vendors, holding the electrical engineer to account, and supporting production if there are electrical issues. E‑cad. Requires a very keen eye for design, too.
Need someone who is familiar with Irish and EU compliance standards to be able to do this position.
