**Job Overview**
The role of a Medical Laboratory Aide is to provide essential support to laboratory staff in the efficient processing and analysis of patient samples. This position requires a motivated individual who can work independently, as part of a team, and maintain accurate records.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Assist in the logging, labeling, centrifugation, and separation of specimens.
* Prepare equipment, culture media, and/or reagents as directed by scientific staff.
* Collect, deliver, decontaminate, sterilize, and wash glassware.
* Monitor supplies, stocks, and request replenishments as necessary.
* Manage waste removal from the laboratory.
* Check, unpack, label, and store deliveries appropriately.
**Additional Tasks**
* Participate in control of stock and consumables.
* Contribute to the monitoring and cleaning of equipment.
* Perform preparatory scientific tasks as directed by scientific staff.
**Selection Criteria**
1. Eligible applicants must have previous experience working in a hospital laboratory or science laboratory.
2. Alternatively, candidates may be currently employed with at least twelve months' experience in the Irish Health Service.
3. Qualifications to minimum standard of Quality & Qualifications Ireland Level 5 (or higher) in Laboratory Skills are also acceptable.
4. Candidates must demonstrate personal competence and capacity to discharge the duties of the role effectively.
**Essential Skills and Qualifications**
* Previous experience in a hospital laboratory or science laboratory.
* Current employment with at least twelve months' experience in the Irish Health Service.
* Qualifications to minimum standard of Quality & Qualifications Ireland Level 5 (or higher) in Laboratory Skills.
**Desirable Skills and Qualifications**
* Relevant experience and computer skills.
* Leaving certificate level education preferably with a Science subject or relevant experience.
