Overview
The purpose of this role is to assist Radiologists and Radiographers during Magnetic Resonance (MRI), Ultrasound (US), Computed Tomography (CT), Fluoroscopic and General Radiographic examination of patients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out general patient care duties within Radiology Departments.
Ensure a clean and hygienic working environment.
Assist in maintaining agreed stock levels of consumable items.
Carry out required administrative tasks.
Maintain effective communication with patients and staff.
Patient Care
Treat all patients with dignity and respect; maintain patient confidentiality.
Ensure patients are appropriately prepared for their examination, including assisting with undressing.
Prepare the examination/scan room for the next patient.
Give emotional support to anxious patients.
Escort, transport and manually handle patients from dressing to exam room and wards.
Carry out general patient care within the Radiology Departments, ensuring highest standards of comfort and safety.
Infection Control
Responsible for the general cleanliness and tidiness of the department and own working area, including examination rooms, changing cubicles and waiting areas.
MRI imaging assistant must maintain cleanliness of MRI scan room, coils, shelving and pad storage area.
Familiarise with and adhere to the SSC Infection Control policy.
Maintaining Stock of Consumable Items
Ensure all consumable items are well stocked in your working area (earplugs, couch roll, CDs for MRI, etc.).
Ensure each examination room is stocked with medical/surgical and other items as required.
Ensure sufficient supplies of linen are available.
Inform a Radiographer immediately if stock is low for a specific item.
Administrative Duties
Demonstrate competency in the use of all applicable aspects of the Radiology Information System (RIS) and limited use of the Hospital Information System (HIS).
Scan documents into the correct patient folders.
Copy and digitise CDs using specialised software when trained.
Answer telephone enquiries to the department and respond appropriately.
Communication
Communicate with patients of all ages, explaining imaging procedures, aftercare and how to obtain results.
Communicate any delays with patients as soon as they arise.
Liaise with wards to ensure patients arrive on-time and prepared for examinations, minimising time in the department.
Ensure patients are appropriately prioritised for their examinations by liaising with Radiographers/Radiologists.
Communicate with all members of staff to support teamwork within the Radiology department.
Other
Participate in service audit as required.
Work variable shifts as assigned to meet departmental needs.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
Fluent in written and oral English.
Desirable
FETAC Level 5 Care Assistant.
Working towards CORU certification for Radiographer.
Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Training Certificates.
Experience
Experience in a care assistant role in a hospital or nursing home environment is beneficial but not critical.
Excellent customer-facing skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Strong patient focus.
Excellent communication skills.
Flexibility.
Honesty and integrity.
