Telecommunications are transforming our lives in the way we live and work and are essential to the remote management of systems and assets. ESB Networks Telecoms group has 100 staff providing the critical operational telecom networks needed to deliver the communication systems required to control the distribution, transmission and generation systems.
The increase in renewable generation at transmission and distribution level and the development of a Smart Electrical Grid is driving an increased reliance on telecommunications systems including SCADA and Energy Metering. ESB Networks Telecoms applications, technologies and networks are undergoing substantial evolution towards packet-based communications, extending their reach to provide visibility and controllability of the LV and MV networks. This position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work and develop in a busy Engineering department.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, install, and support a range of SCADA/energy metering equipment.
* Specify, design, and document SCADA and Energy Metering solutions for installation by third parties/contractors.
* Work with Current Transformer (CT) and Voltage Transformer (VT) systems.
* Implement and support SCADA and Protection systems used to control the Electricity Network.
* Participate in technology trials and proofs of concepts for emerging technology solutions, in conjunction with customers and implementation teams across ESB.
* Maintain a strong safety, quality, and performance culture and uphold OHSAS accreditation.
* Provide design and project management support for Networks Telecoms projects within ESB Networks, ESB Group, and EirGrid.
* Deliver projects on time, within budget, and within scope.
* Develop and maintain close cooperation with stakeholders.
* Engage with customer nominees to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
* Prepare project proposals and expenditure approvals as appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications
* Qualifications in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Full driving license.
* Familiarity with control and automation systems used in ESB Networks substations.
* Knowledge of energy metering principles and technology.
* Experience in deploying, maintaining, and fault-finding electrical/electronic systems.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Experience working in high voltage environments.
* Experience with AC & DC systems.
* Familiarity with SCADA and Protection systems used in the electrical utility sector.
* Knowledge of IEC101 & IEC104 communication protocols.
* Experience working in a critical infrastructure environment.
* A background in electrical trades is a distinct advantage.
Location
This role will be based in Leopardstown, Dublin 18, with flexible arrangements considered.
Travel within Ireland will be required.

All arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on operational needs.
