Job Title: Child Advocacy Specialist
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our team as a Child Advocacy Specialist. In this role, you will provide informed legal advice to child complainants in serious sexual offence cases, ensuring their rights and entitlements are upheld throughout the criminal justice process.
Main Responsibilities
* Prepare and provide relevant legal advice, information, and guidance to child complainants and their families, ensuring accessibility and age-appropriateness.
* Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive cases, providing direct service to clients and their families from initial reporting to trial commencement.
* Represent and communicate the interests and views of child complainants to the Prosecution Service (PPS) regarding issues related to disclosure of evidence and introduction of previous sexual history.
* Support the empowerment of child victims through a trauma-informed approach, delivering an adaptable and flexible service with a clear child-centred focus.
Key Requirements
* Qualifications: University level degree in law or a relevant subject, with a current practicing certificate in Northern Ireland.
* Experience: Minimum three years post-qualification experience gained within the last five years, with proven substantial experience of providing legal advice in a criminal law setting to children and young people.
* Skills: Excellent verbal and listening skills, ability to communicate well with diverse groups, including children and young people; demonstrable knowledge of the criminal justice system, court procedures, and safeguarding protocols.
What You'll Receive
* A competitive salary of £39,553 FTE per annum.
* A fixed-term contract ending 30th November 2025, with possibility of extension subject to funding.
