Software Developer (Mid-Level)
Overview
As a Software Developer at DOCOsoft, you will contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of a business-critical ASP.NET application used across the London and Global Insurance Markets.
This role focuses on building and enhancing features within a large, established monolithic application backed by SQL Server, operating primarily on-premise, with some customer deployments hosted by DOCOsoft on Azure using IaaS.
You will work within a cross-functional agile team, delivering reliable, well-tested software in a domain where correctness, stability, and data integrity matter more than trend-chasing.
Role Scope
This is a hands-on delivery role within an existing architecture.
You will:
* Implement features and enhancements within a mature ASP.NET codebase
* Work primarily in server-side .NET and SQL
* Contribute to incremental improvements in code quality and maintainability
* Learn the domain, the system, and its constraints deeply over time
You will not be expected to redesign the system architecture or introduce new paradigms wholesale but will contribute to new feature design and development.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain features and enhancements within an ASP.NET application
* Write clear, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with existing architectural patterns
* Develop and optimise SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and data access logic
* Investigate and resolve defects, including issues reported from production environments
* Participate actively in code reviews, retrospectives, and sprint ceremonies
* Collaborate with QA to ensure changes are thoroughly tested and regression-safe
* Contribute to technical discussions around incremental improvements to the codebase
* Build a strong understanding of business workflows, data models, and system dependencies
Experience
* 3–5 years professional software development experience
* Proven experience working on production ASP.NET applications
* Experience maintaining and extending existing systems, not just greenfield projects
Core Technical Skills
* Solid experience with C# and ASP.NET (.NET Framework and/or modern .NET)
* Strong working knowledge of SQL Server and T-SQL
* Experience building and consuming REST-style Web APIs
* Practical experience using Git for version control
* Understanding of transactional systems and data consistency
Development Practices
* Experience writing unit tests using frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit
* Familiarity with mocking frameworks (e.g. Moq)
* Understanding of object-oriented design principles and pragmatic application of SOLID
* Appreciation for defensive coding, regression prevention, and backward compatibility
Infrastructure & Deployment Context
* Experience working with on-premise hosted applications
* Exposure to Azure Virtual Machines / IaaS environments
* Awareness of deployment, configuration, and environment-specific considerations
* Understanding of authentication and authorisation concepts (e.g. OAuth2, OpenID Connect) is beneficial.

* Delivers changes confidently without introducing regressions
* Understands the system's data model and core business workflows
* Writes code that fits the existing architecture and improves it incrementally
* Identifies risk areas early and raises them clearly
* Is trusted to work independently on complex features within the monolith
