Position Role Type: Onsite
Senior Researcher – Electrical Systems – Collins Aerospace, an RTX business
Applied Research & Technology
Power the next generation of flight. What comes next in aerospace? Hybrid and electric propulsion. Smarter, lighter, safer electrical systems. Cleaner aviation by design, not compromise. Technology that does not just imagine the future of flight, but helps build it. At Collins Aerospace, that future is already taking shape.
We are looking for a Senior Researcher – Electrical Systems to join our Applied Research & Technology team and help drive breakthrough innovation for next‑generation aircraft. This is a research‑led, hands‑on technical role where advanced electrical systems, power electronics, experimentation and real‑world aerospace impact come together. You will work in an international, highly collaborative research environment, helping develop technologies that could shape future aircraft platforms across the world.
Where theory becomes hardware. Where ideas become prototypes. Where research gets a flight path.
What You Will Be Working On
You will provide technical leadership and deliver impactful research across advanced electrical systems, with deep expertise in one or more of the following areas:

High power density power electronics, including converter design, analysis and control
Electrical power distribution architectures, including redundancy, fault isolation and system safety
EMI analysis and filter design, including magnetic component design
Converter and motor drive control, implemented on DSPs and/or FPGAs
High‑voltage effects and mitigation, including arcing faults, creepage and clearance, partial discharge, lightning and altitude/low‑pressure considerations
Aerospace electrical systems, architectures and certification standards

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working at the edge of what is possible, and seeing research move beyond papers, models and presentations into real technology development.
What You Will Do
As part of a multidisciplinary research team, you will:

Develop and execute technology research plans within agreed time and budget requirements
Generate innovative concepts through technical excellence, experimentation and creative thinking
Design, build and test hardware prototypes and control strategies in lab environments
Lead significant parts of research projects or complex technical subsystems
Translate complex technical ideas into clear reports, presentations and recommendations
Present research outcomes to senior technical and business stakeholders
Contribute directly to long‑term technology roadmaps
Support proposals for externally funded research initiatives
Collaborate with universities, government bodies, national laboratories and industry partners
Help influence the future direction of electrified aviation technologies

You will be trusted to work with autonomy, curiosity and technical depth, while being supported by a global research community with world‑class aerospace expertise.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for someone with strong technical capability, a research mindset and the confidence to explore new ideas in a complex engineering environment.
You will ideally bring:

Typically requires a PhD with relevant academic or industrial experience, or a Master’s degree with strong relevant experience and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field.
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, converter control or high‑voltage technologies
A practical, experimental mindset with enthusiasm for hands‑on research and lab‑based development
The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within international teams
Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical work to varied audiences
The confidence to challenge assumptions, explore new approaches and expand beyond your core area of expertise

Experience within aerospace, electrified propulsion, safety‑critical systems or certification environments would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
Why Collins Aerospace
At Collins Aerospace, our Applied Research & Technology organisation exists to accelerate transformative ideas for a safer, more connected and more sustainable future.
You will be part of a global research community working on technologies that matter. Your work will not sit on a shelf gathering dust. It will provide the electrical systems, architectures and breakthrough capabilities that may power future aircraft.
Here, you can work on:

Meaningful research with real‑world aerospace application
Emerging technologies linked to hybrid and electric aviation
Complex technical challenges with global relevance
Collaborative projects across industry, academia and government
A future‑focused environment where innovation has a clear route to impact

If you want your research to matter, and your work to fly, this is where it begins.
What We Offer
We offer a competitive package designed to support your career, wellbeing and life outside of work, including:

Competitive salary
23 days’ holiday plus statutory public holidays
Contributory pension scheme, with up to 8% company contribution
Life assurance
Enhanced family‑friendly policies, including maternity, paternity and shared parental leave
Private medical insurance
The opportunity to work with world‑class aerospace technology and global research teams
