Job Title: Anaesthetic Registrar

Department: Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

The overall purpose of this role is to provide quality care to patients in a respectful, safe and compassionate environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing care to patients in the Critical Care Units, and to any other patients in the hospital who require acute medical intervention that can be provided by an Anaesthetic Registrar.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables include:

1. To act under the supervision of the Daily Duty Intensivist/Anaesthetist in the provision of an Intensive Care service and to support the Daily Duty Intensivist in their duties.
2. At 07:00 and /or 19:00 go to the Critical Care Unit and liaise with the Nurse Manager or Nurse in Charge.
3. Take hand over of patients from previous shift Registrar, so that continuity of care is ensured and immediate decisions are made and orders written.
4. Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.
5. To attend to emergencies when they occur or free up the consultant to attend to emergencies.
6. To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g. injuries, falls, sudden illnesses, etc suffered by patients, visitors or staff.
7. Contribute to quality improvement; risk management initiatives and policy development so that the overall Anaesthesia Service is of the highest quality and reflective of best practice.
8. Assist in the education of Critical Care colleagues and staff.
9. Participate in work related projects at Beacon Hospital.

Person Specification includes qualifications such as MRCP, MRCS or equivalent required, Current Full Irish Medical Council Registration, and Membership of the College of Anaesthetists desirable.

Required skills and qualifications also include At least 2 years experience as an Anaesthetic Registrar in an acute hospital setting, and Current ACLS certification required.
