Technical Officer Senior Technical Officer - LAB Support
The role provides day-to-day technical support for undergraduate teaching laboratories in the areas of engineering mechanics (statics, dynamics, strength of materials, friction and related fields), the Design, Build and Fly module, and the carbon-fibre composites manufacturing facility.
The post holder will manage and maintain mechanical engineering laboratory equipment such as flywheel-based moment of inertia apparatus, PASCO cart impact/collision systems, co-planar forces experiment, moments of inertia experiments, deflection of beams experiments, friction on inclined planes experiments and vibration experiments.
The successful candidate will also support the Design, Build and Fly module (based on the AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition) where students design, build and flight-test RC model aircraft, operating equipment such as a CNC LASER cutting machine and a CNC Five-Axis Hot Wire Foam Cutter.
Additionally, the post holder will contribute to the operation and development of the carbon-fibre manufacturing facility, including autoclave curing, hand lay-up, vacuum infusion, ultrasonic non-destructive testing, CNC ply cutter, ultrasonic welding, and 9-axis KUKA robot automated tape placement.
The role involves working with undergraduate, final-year, master's, and PhD students, researchers and academics through laboratory setup, maintenance, technical guidance and facility management.
