Applications are invited for an appointment as Clinical Tutor in Patient Centred Care in the Direct Entry Medicine Programme, Part-time (0.5FTE), Permanent post, in the School of Medicine, University of Galway. This post is suitable for a Health & Social Care Professional or Nurse with experience working as part of an interprofessional team in the Irish Healthcare system, who has excellent leadership, communication and organisations skills and a with a strong track record in healthcare student teaching and/or clinical placement supervision.
We are seeking to appoint to this post to join the Discipline of Medical Education at an exciting time when both health care and health-professions education is evolving and changing.
The successful candidate in this post will work collaboratively with their counterpart Clinical Tutor(s) in Patient Centred Care in the Direct Entry Medicine Programme in the School of Medicine, University of Galway, coming from a medical doctor background.
The new appointment will ensure capacity for the development and delivery of new content relating to the revised Direct Entry Programme in the School of Medicine specifically focusing on the patient in the healthcare system and inter-professional practice.
The post holder will sit in the Department of Medical Education (DME). The Discipline of Medical Education (DME) is one of 14 academic disciplines in the School of Medicine. It comprises staff with a specialist interest in Medical Education, who come from a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.
Under the leadership of Prof. Rosemary Geoghegan, the staff of the DME contribute to and support the Direct Entry Medicine Programmein the areas of curriculum development, quality assurance, faculty training in teaching and assessment methodologies, clinical science and practice facilitation, student research, and leadership (module and programme).
Additionally, the DME offers postgraduate programmes, including the PG Diploma and MSc in Health Professions’ Clinically Education. Staff contribute to these programmes delivery, including supervision of masters students conducting research in Health Professions’ Education. The DME is building its doctoral and post -doctoral research capacity. DME staff have a wide range of research interests in Health Professions’ Education.

Salary: €82,195 to €100,597 pro rata p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
This appointment will be made on the clinical tutor 2 scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy.
