Job Description
Duration:
Temporary Part Time externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 18 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months
Basic Function
This Research Officer position is a half time role, and the successful candidate will work in a support role and will manage an industry project(s) of significance. The successful candidate will contribute to the project coordination, data management, preparation of projects budgets, reports and will undertake general project management duties. The person recruited would need to have good scientific knowledge, excellent project management and writing skills and be a good communicator with a capacity to organise, manage and prioritise workloads, in addition to being a team player within the project team and the Food Biosciences Department
Background
The company sponsoring this research project have a strong working relationship with Teagasc and the research being undertaken focuses primarily on investigating the impact of ingredients on heart, digestive (microbiome) and metabolic health.
Working hours:
Part time: This is a part time post of 17.5 hours per week (0.5 Full Time Equivalent (FTE)).
The salary will be paid at a pro rata, per annum basis.
Job Objectives
* To coordinate manage project(s) funded by a specific industry partner
* To provide day-to-day support to the project team in the Food Biosciences Department
* To monitor project finances and liaise with finance teams
* To liaise with in relation to IP/case study impact related actions
* To liaise with the company sponsoring the research
* To assist Teagasc in meeting the commitments of the Quality Customer Service Charter and Action Plan.
* To actively participate in the annual business planning and Performance Management Development System (PMDS) processes.
* Fully co-operate with the provisions made for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of themselves, fellow staff and non-Teagasc staff and co-operate with management in enabling Teagasc to comply with legal obligations. This includes full compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Safety Statement.

Qualifications
* An honours Level 8 degree, (as recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent), in science discipline.
* A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in Biological Sciences would be a distinct advantage
* Project management qualification

Eligibility
This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post.
