Key Responsibilities

Support the effective day‑to‑day operational management of the Theatre Department and ensure the smooth delivery of surgical services.
Supervise and coordinate patient care within the Operating Theatre, ensuring care is planned, delivered, evaluated, and documented to the highest professional standards.
Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors in compliance with health, safety, and infection prevention policies.
Ensure theatre policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and best practices are implemented, monitored, and adhered to at all times.
Oversee the availability, maintenance, and safe use of theatre equipment, supplies, drugs, blood products, specimens, and hazardous materials.
Support staff orientation, supervision, training, performance management, and continuous professional development within the Theatre team.
Liaise effectively with Bed Utilisation, Scheduling teams, consultants, and multidisciplinary staff to support theatre scheduling, patient flow, and service efficiency.
Monitor stock control and coordinate with Stores and relevant departments to ensure adequate availability of theatre supplies and resources.
Participate in incident investigations, complaint management, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance monitoring to support safe and effective patient care.
Deputise for the CNM III – Theatre Manager when required and demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organisational, and people management skills.

Qualifications

Registered as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligible for registration.
Minimum of 5 years post‑registration clinical experience in an acute hospital setting within the last 9 years.
Recent management or supervisory experience within the last 3 years, preferably in a Theatre or peri‑operative environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills; ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Strong leadership and people management capabilities, including staff supervision, motivation, and team development.
Commitment to delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care and promoting continuous professional development.
Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast‑paced clinical environment.
Proficient IT and documentation skills, including experience using healthcare or Theatre Management systems.
Possess, or be willing to undertake, a post‑registration qualification in Peri‑operative Nursing and/or a recognised management qualification or leadership course.
Knowledge of quality assurance and accreditation standards such as JCI, along with competencies in clinical practice, service improvement, planning, organisation, teamwork, and continuous learning.
