Overview
You will be responsible for working in the yard, warehouse and store areas.
Working as part of a team you will ensure customers receive a friendly and reliable service.
The General Operative is the heartbeat of the branch.
You will be responsible for the efficient flow of goods—from the moment they arrive from suppliers to the moment they are loaded into a customer's van or onto our delivery trucks.
This is a "hybrid" role requiring physical stamina for the yard and warehouse, combined with strong communication skills for the trade counter.
Responsibilities
Warehouse & Yard
Receive and check deliveries to the warehouse.
Identify and highlight any variances.
Ensure secure and timely storage of deliveries in line with health and safety guidelines.
Maintain a yard, warehouse, and storage areas that are always kept tidy and in line with health and safety guidelines.
Pick, pack and load company vehicles.
Safeguard against theft of goods and/or company property.
Ensure forklift is employed and maintained in line with health and safety guidelines if applicable.
Take on forklift truck and combi duties as required, ensuring daily safety checks are conducted thoroughly, and any defects are reported if applicable.
Work and communicate as part of a team to ensure the warehouse operates efficiently and effectively.
Load and unload vehicles in a safe manner
Perform any other reasonable duties as required by the company.
Reports to the warehouse & Transport Supervisor.
Trade Counter & Customer Service
Transaction Management: Process orders and payments through the company's POS (Point of Sale) system.
Phone Inquiries: Handle incoming calls regarding stock availability, pricing, and delivery schedules.
Counter Sales: Assist trade professionals and DIY customers with inquiries, providing basic technical advice on building materials (insulation, drylining, aggregates, etc.).
Merchandising: Ensure the shop floor/trade counter area is fully stocked and that promotional displays are visible and tidy.
Reports to the trade counter team leader.
Health, Safety & Security
Constantly monitor shop floor, warehouse and yard for potential hazards to customers and staff (e.g., spills, loose racking, blocked exits).
Promote a security conscious environment actively safeguarding company assets and reporting any suspicious behaviour.
Adhere to all Manual handling guidelines when breaking down pallets and moving heavy building supplies.
Adhere to all safe lifting techniques for heavy items.
Consistently wear required Personal Protective Equipment (High-vis, steel-toe boots, gloves).
Conduct daily pre-op checks on forklifts and report any mechanical issues.
Strictly follow HSA (Health and Safety Authority) guidelines to ensure the safety of colleagues and customers in the yard, shop and warehouse.
Knowledge and Experience
2 + years' experience in a similar environment.
Ability to take initiative and work under pressure.
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to prioritise workloads.
Teamwork oriented.
Excellent interpersonal and customer-facing skills
Flexible and willing to learn.
Forklift, Combi lift & manual handling licenses are an advantage.

Days:
Mon-Fri (Available for Saturday rostering)
Times:
Mon – Thu 7.30am – 4.30pm, Fri 7.30am – 4.00pm
Position:
Full-time, on-site position.
Note:
May involve early starts, late finishes, or weekend work depending on operational needs.
Note:
Will require physical activity, including lifting and movement of goods.
