The main purpose of the role of Addiction Therapist, Addictions/Dual Services, is to assess and provide 1:1 counselling and group therapy for service users with addictions/dual diagnosis.
To facilitate the delivery and day-to-day operation of the Alcohol and Chemical/Dual Diagnosis Services.
The successful applicant must: Hold a recognised qualification as an allied profession. Have a recognised qualification in counselling/Psychotherapy. Be fully accredited or working towards full accreditation with an accrediting body, e.g., IAAAC / IACP. Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in mental health and addiction. Reporting to: Addiction/Dual Diagnosis Service Manager/Programme Manager/Clinically-Consultant
Place of Work: St. Patrick's University Hospital, Dublin, including associated clinics and services.
Main Purpose: To assess and provide counselling and therapy for service users with addictions/dual diagnosis, and facilitate the operation of related services.
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week across 5 days, including some Saturdays and evenings.
Duties: Accept, respond to, and screen referrals from various clinics. Conduct clinical assessments and devise individual therapeutic programmes. Provide specialist care for service users and families. Deliver individual counselling sessions. Assess ongoing progress and liaise with consultants. Meet with families or carers as needed. Facilitate designated group programmes. Contribute to service development, integrating evidence-based practices. Develop aftercare and family support components. Work within a multidisciplinary team and attend meetings. Evaluate programmes using outcome measures. Maintain confidentiality and participate in ongoing training. Complete administrative duties promptly. Support quality patient care and safety standards. Perform other relevant duties as required. This Job Description is not exhaustive.
The appointee may be required to undertake additional duties and contribute to the development of the role. Person Specification Qualifications and Experience: Recognised qualification in an allied profession and in counselling/Psychotherapy. Full or working towards full accreditation with IAAAC/IACP. Minimum 5 years' experience in mental health and addiction (desirable). Experience in multidisciplinary teams, programme delivery, and addiction counselling (desirable). Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant legislation. Initiative, enthusiasm, and motivation. Decision-making and problem-solving skills. Effective time management. Empathy, confidentiality, and excellent communication skills. IT skills and familiarity with electronic health records. Willingness to engage in further training. Terms and Conditions Tenure: 1.0 WTE, permanent, pensionable.
Working Week: 35 hours/week.
Salary: Based on experience and SPUH 2025 CNMII scale, pro-rata.
Annual Leave: 25 days.
Pension: Defined contribution scheme, 4% employee deduction.
Probation: Six months, extendable to 9 months.
Health: Must be in good health to perform duties.
Character: Good character required.
Retirement Age: 66 years.
Additional: Must confirm completion of recognised training in the Mental Health Act by start date.
