The Protection Engineer plays a key role in ensuring that network protection systems operate in accordance with established distribution standards and internal protection policies.
This includes setting and reviewing protection parameters, evaluating technical aspects of small-scale generation applications, and witnessing site testing activities.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct safety assessments prior to witnessing activities and coordinate work schedules with commissioning contractors as required.
Review and validate site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
Witness functional testing of EGIP/G10 protection schemes, ensuring compliance with approved design standards, specifications, and documentation.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of protection principles, particularly voltage and current-based schemes, static and dynamic frequency protection, and earth fault detection.
Coordinate and validate high-voltage (HV) and embedded generation protection settings.
Review and assess technical accuracy of customer generation connection applications and associated protection settings.
Witness testing at customer generation interface sites (e.g., EGIP/G10/MEC0), ensuring alignment with network protection policies before final sign-off.
Provide technical support and guidance to customers regarding interface protection requirements and resolve related queries.
Support Protection Engineers in fault investigations and analysis of protection system malfunctions.
Apply appropriate protection settings to 38kV and medium-voltage (MV) feeder and transformer cubicles.
Requirements Solid technical expertise in power system protection and commissioning.
Minimum of 3 years experience in power system studies, protection settings, and commissioning activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional reports.
Self-driven, with effective project management and prioritization abilities.
Capable of making sound, well-reasoned decisions using both logical analysis and creative problem-solving.
