Vacancy for Victims' Payments Scheme for Permanent Disablement Advice Worker
We are seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Victims' Payments Scheme for Permanent Disablement Advice Worker with Relatives for Justice.
About the Role
This role is funded by Victims & Survivors Services and is a permanent position based in Belfast. The successful candidate will work between offices and outreach centres in Belfast, Dungannon, and further afield as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide information and advice on the scheme for injured individuals from the conflict.
* Maintain an ongoing caseload associated with the position.
* Maximise applicants' income through the recovery of relevant documentation.
* Make home visits to support applicants in making applications to the scheme.
* Provide representation to the Payment's Board on behalf of applicants.
* Research and collate supporting evidence of conflict harm and injury on behalf of applicants.
* Mediate and negotiate with agencies in the preparation and presentation of applications and appeals.
* Participate in regular training programmes.
* Provide regular reports on applicant representation to the Deputy Director.
* Attend and participate in team meetings and attend monthly supervision with the Deputy Director.
* Promote partnership working to increase the efficiency of advice services to members of Relatives for Justice.
Essential Criteria
* A relevant Third Level Degree and/or minimum three years paid employment working with victims and survivors in advocacy work.
* Awareness and understanding of how rights to reparations and advice issues impact the victims and survivors of conflict.
* An excellent understanding of the nature of conflict harms and physical and psychological injury, conflict trauma and its impact.
* Experience of collating archive materials and evidence on behalf of victims and survivors.
* Experience of giving advice on reparative schemes available to victims and survivors.
* The ability to interpret and explain clearly relevant legislation in meaningful ways.
* Working experience of computer programmes e.g., Word and Excel.
* At least two years' experience of working with victims and survivors of conflict in paid or unpaid capacity.
