Genealogy Coordinator – Irish Family History Centre (IFHC)

At the Irish Family History Centre (IFHC), we help visitors explore their Irish roots through rich storytelling, historical records, and expert genealogical guidance.
Every interaction — from the first welcome to supporting consultation bookings — plays a role in sparking identity, belonging and discovery.
We are now seeking a Genealogy Coordinator to act as a warm, informed and engaging presence within the Centre.
You will support genealogists, guide visitors in understanding their research options, coordinate bookings and consultation flow, and help deliver a memorable family history experience.
This is a hands-on visitor-facing coordination role, ideal for someone who enjoys heritage, people engagement and smooth operational delivery.
What you'll do
Visitor Experience, Heritage Interpretation & Sales Support
Welcome visitors and support them through the family history discovery journey
Explain genealogy research offerings, consultation formats, records used and what visitors can expect
Promote genealogy consultations and premium research services through confident, informed guidance
Deliver short introductions or group talks on genealogy processes when required
Represent IFHC at events and outreach opportunities to build awareness and engagement
Gather visitor feedback and service insights to help enhance offerings and experience quality
Operational Coordination, Administration & Safety
Oversee front desk operations including check-in, enquiries and visitor flow
Manage genealogy consultation bookings, schedules and incoming email queries
Maintain accurate records across consultations, bookings, payments and reporting
Support scheduling/roster planning and assist with finance administration when required
Handle sensitive personal information with confidentiality and care
Ensure GDPR, data protection, and Health & Safety standards are upheld at all times
Team Support
Support genealogists and visitor-facing staff with information flow and daily tasks
Assist with onboarding and training activities when needed
Help maintain a friendly, collaborative team culture
What you bring
Experience & Education
1–2 years in customer-facing roles (visitor experience, front of house, cultural or hospitality)
Experience in heritage/tourism/museum environments is desirable
Third-level qualification in history, genealogy, heritage, tourism or related field is a plus
Skills & Strengths
Curious about Irish genealogy and open to building knowledge in records and research
Warm, engaging communicator who enjoys helping people connect with their heritage
Organised and calm under pressure
Ability to multitask
Comfortable promoting services and guiding visitors
Strong administration and coordination skills
Tech-comfortable (MS Office, CRM or booking systems — training provided)
Flexible, dependable and available to work weekends as part of a rotating schedule
