Job Description
Transportation is one of the Egis groups’ key sectors and is one of our three global business areas. Spanning rail, urban transit, roads, active travel, ports, structures and geotechnical, transportation in the UK and Ireland is at a pivotal point of growth, as we embark on a new phase of investment. We have a strong base in both countries, with staff involved in iconic projects including HS2, MMA, the N/M20 Cork to Limerick route and the LUAS extension. As we progressively integrate our businesses across UK and Ireland, we are now seeking to appoint a Director to lead our transportation business across the two counties which have previously been under separate leadership. The UK/IRL Transportation Director will be a pivotal role for our business, responsible for strategy and growth of transportation engineering and consulting services in both countries, with order intake and P&L responsibility, and demonstrating clear benefits and synergies in operating together – to our teams, to our clients and partners, and to our efficiency and effectiveness. The role can be based in London or Dublin with regular travel across the UK and Ireland, and to client/partner sites.
Key Responsibilities & Missions
Lead the design, capture, delivery, and operational execution of all transportation projects, ensuring the adoption of best practice and comparative advantage
Drive and shape the UK & Ireland transportation strategy in collaboration with the global transportation business and Country Managing Directors, and own implementation and performance against financial and non‑financial targets
Develop marketing plans, technical and commercial leadership, project and staffing plans, and talent management to support the delivery of the strategy and client needs
Participate with select clients and key accounts on current and future business opportunities
Lead people management to build a motivated, disciplined and productive workforce, setting objectives, driving appraisals and communication
Establish and maintain an effective organisational structure and skill base to meet short‑ and long‑term business needs
Demonstrate sustainable development leadership and enhance the organisation’s commitment to sustainable performance
Maximise financial results, including order intake, profit and loss, capital expenditure and receivables
Plan, operate and grow transportation services in the UK and Ireland
Qualifications
Essential
Degree‑level qualification in business management, engineering or related field, or equivalent gained through experience
Proven market leader in UK and Ireland transportation, with extensive sector experience
Experience in international design firms, major rail and/or road projects, and P&L management
Leadership and proven management ability
Strategic acumen for long‑term vision implementation in fast‑paced environments
Problem‑solving skills and data‑driven decision making
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage senior managers, employees, stakeholders and external partners
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a collaborative environment
Desired
Experience leading teams across the UK and Ireland
