OverviewAccela is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead multiple engineering teams focused on delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional partners across product, UX/UI, and DevOps to ensure alignment with business goals and technical excellence. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering talent, and contribute to architectural decisions that support long-term maintainability and performance. The role includes serving as Site Lead for the Dublin office, supporting its growth and development. This is a strategic position for a leader who values collaboration, continuous improvement, and thoughtful innovation.ResponsibilitiesOversee the design and development of 3-4 engineering teams, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability. Teams include: Mobile, Payments, Reporting, ServicesCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and UX/UI, to define and deliver high-quality software solutions.Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable backend services, ensuring seamless integration with frontend applications.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, ensuring best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.Conduct code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tools.Participate in design discussions and provide input on design decisions, frameworks, and technology choices.Ensure that the architecture aligns with current and future business objectives, including security, legal requirements, time to market, and long-term support, with emphasis on adaptability and flexibility.Work with DevOps teams to optimize deployment processes, automation, and CI/CD pipelines using Kubernetes and GitHub Actions.Keep up to date with the latest trends in technology and proactively recommend tools and practices that can improve the team’s productivity and the product’s quality.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Proven experience as a Director of Software Engineering or in a comparable leadership role, with a strong foundation in both backend and frontend development.Deep expertise in backend development, including hands-on experience with microservices and serverless architectures.Proficient in modern frontend technologies such as React, Angular, or Vue.js, with a solid grasp of current web development practices.Strong understanding of architectural design patterns, software engineering principles, and industry best practices.Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and GitHub Actions for managing CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.In-depth knowledge of Scrum methodologies and familiarity with the SAFe Agile framework.Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to effectively engage, negotiate, and build consensus with internal and external partners.Comfortable working in fast-paced, agile development environments and using associated tools and methodologies.Desired QualificationsMaster's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.Solid understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.Experience in database design and performance optimization, particularly with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.Familiarity with mobile application development (iOS and/or Android) is a strong plus.Knowledge of security best practices and the ability to apply them effectively within software architecture and development processes.Proficient in performance optimization strategies for both backend services and frontend applications.Experience working with large-scale, highly reliable systems, as well as exposure to AI/ML technologies and big data analytics.Benefits and PerksBeyond a stellar work environment, great people, and inspiring, innovative work, Accela offers benefits and perks such as:Ireland Standard HolidaysPension ContributionAbout AccelaFor nearly 20 years, Accela has been an industry leader in designing and delivering government software to improve efficiency, increase citizen engagement, and enable the development of thriving communities.
