An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer to join a global leader in Medical devices. This is a permanent position based in South Dublin, offering the chance to play a key role in driving innovation across product and technology development programmes.
As Principal Engineer, you’ll lead complex engineering initiatives, mentor technical talent, and help shape the future of healthcare solutions. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and wants to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the development of novel technologies and product concepts aligned with the company’s strategic roadmap.
* Solve advanced technical challenges and ensure the success of R&D deliverables across multiple projects.
* Manage technology budgets, resource planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
* Drive innovation and process effectiveness while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.
* Represent R&D in core team meetings and external engagements.
* Mentor technical talent, promote continuous learning, and foster a culture of innovation.
* Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate technology transfer and product development.
* Promote inclusive collaboration and lead effectively in complex or ambiguous situations.
Experience and Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering (or related discipline).
* 8+ years’ experience in product development, including at least 5 years within the medical device sector.
* Demonstrated leadership experience in complex R&D programmes.
* Highly skilled in SolidWorks, a Certified user is highly desirable
* Proven technical and organisational capabilities across:
o Execution & Planning: Delivering milestones on time and within budget.
o Risk & Budget Management: Leading mitigation strategies and managing R&D budgets.
o Communication & Collaboration: Driving cross-functional alignment and clarity.
o Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Tackling complex challenges with innovative solutions.
o Customer Understanding & Product Architecture: Translating user needs into impactful designs.
o Innovation & Initiative: Championing new ideas and taking ownership in dynamic settings.
