Energy Engineer

Team Horizon is seeking an Energy Technical Services Officer for a role in Galway.

The main function is to progress energy and carbon reduction through energy management teams and behavioural change programmes. Support, promote, and actively participate in sustainable energy, decarbonisation, water, and transport initiatives to create a more sustainable, low-carbon, and efficient facilities.

What you will be doing:

* Monitoring and reporting on the energy consumption in healthcare premises.
* Supporting existing and initiating new Energy Awareness Management Teams in locations as identified – existing and new.
* Building on best practices in existing areas.
* Establishing Energy Management Teams in locations including Hospital Manager, Finance Manager, Maintenance Manager, Estates Representative.
* Working closely with and supporting Hospital Green Teams and Energy Teams.
* Providing and making available metered energy and water usage data, comparators, and KPIs.
* Progressing energy audits.
* Compiling action plans for each location.
* Running staff "User Education" and "Energy Awareness Programmes".
* Building on and developing work already undertaken through the OPW’s ‘Optimising Power @ Work’ programme.
* Progressing Display Energy Certificates.
* Producing ongoing register of opportunities and supporting project development for retrofit projects identified by Green and Energy Teams.
* Utilising nationally agreed tools to assess and prioritize projects.
* Progressing funding applications for capital works, both major and minor, including EPCs where appropriate.
* Managing the specification, design, procurement, and completion of energy minor capital works.
* Reviewing MIC for all supply points.
* Working closely with and supporting the National Estates Energy Unit, including being an active team member of the Regional Energy Bureau and reporting to the Estates Manager.
* Providing monthly activity, progress, and expenditure reports.
* Contributing to the formation of the annual energy minor works programme using nationally agreed assessment tools.

What you need to apply:

* Hold a Level 8 (or higher) QQI major award in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Sustainable Energy Engineering, accredited by the relevant authority.
* Membership of Engineers Ireland or relevant professional association.
* At least five years’ satisfactory experience post-qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering, including design, project management, or maintenance of buildings or services.
* Requisite knowledge and management ability to perform the role effectively.
* Good character and suitability for the position.
