Job Title: Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Location: Flannery's Nursing Home, County Galway, Ireland

Reports to: Director of Nursing

Job Summary:

Flannery's Nursing Home is seeking an experienced and dedicated nursing leader to join our senior management team as the Assistant Director of Nursing. The ADON will work in close collaboration with the Director of Nursing to oversee all aspects of clinical care, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and person-centredness for our residents. This role is pivotal in providing clinical leadership, managing nursing and care staff, and ensuring continuous compliance with all regulatory standards, including those set by HIQA.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Leadership & Quality of Care:

* Oversee the development, implementation, and review of individualised, person-centred care plans for all residents.
* Champion evidence-based best practices in all aspects of nursing and dementia care.
* Lead clinical governance activities, including regular clinical audits (e.g., medication management, falls prevention, wound care), and drive quality improvement initiatives based on findings.
* Act as a senior clinical resource and mentor for nursing and care staff, providing expert guidance on complex care needs.
* Ensure the safe and effective management of medications in line with NMBI guidelines and facility policy.

2. Staff Management & Development:

* Supervise, mentor, and support the nursing team, including Clinical Nurse Managers and staff nurses.
* Oversee staff rosters to ensure safe and appropriate staffing levels at all times.
* Manage staff performance, conduct regular appraisals, and address any performance issues in a professional and timely manner.
* Foster a positive and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork, professional growth, and staff retention.
* Identify training needs and coordinate with the Director of Nursing to facilitate ongoing education and professional development for all clinical staff.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:

* Ensure the nursing home is in a constant state of readiness for HIQA inspections and other regulatory audits.
* Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Health Act 2007 and associated regulations, HIQA standards, and all relevant healthcare legislation.
* Oversee the implementation and review of all clinical policies and procedures to ensure they are current and compliant.
* Lead on risk management within the clinical setting, ensuring incidents are reported, investigated, and learned from in accordance with the facility's incident management policy.
* Uphold strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards.

4. Operational & Administrative Duties:

* Deputise for the Director of Nursing in their absence, assuming full responsibility for the clinical and operational management of the nursing home.
* Assist with budget management and resource allocation for the clinical department.
* Act as a key point of contact for residents, their families, and external healthcare professionals (GPs, allied health professionals, HSE).
* Manage and respond to compliments, concerns, and complaints effectively and in line with facility policy.

Person Specification:

Essential Requirements:

* Must be actively registered on the General Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
* A minimum of 3 years of post-registration experience, with a substantial amount of this gained in the care of the older person.
* Demonstrable experience in a nursing leadership or management role (e.g., Clinical Nurse Manager, Acting ADON).
* Strong working knowledge of HIQA standards and the legislative framework for older persons' services in Ireland.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Evidence of eligibility to work in Ireland is required.

Desirable Attributes:

* A post-graduate qualification in Gerontology, Dementia Care, or Healthcare Management.
* Formal training in clinical audit and risk management.
* Experience in leading a team through a HIQA inspection.
* Excellent IT skills and experience with electronic care planning systems.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: €60,000.00-€65,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

* Abbeyknockmoy, Tuam, CO. Galway: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
