Medical Officer Position


About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding Medical Officer role that requires strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of occupational health and safety practices.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a framework to monitor high-quality patient care, managing employee fitness for work, and administering welfare services.

They will also be required to set medical standards for fitness to work, manage primary general practitioner services, and interpret drug testing results as a Medical Review Officer.

In addition, the Medical Officer will provide support to the company's safety management systems, advise on compliance with statutory legislation, and administer health promotion services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medicine, membership of relevant professional bodies, and experience in occupational health and safety.


Responsibilities

1. Create a framework to monitor the delivery of high-quality patient care
2. Manage employee fitness for work, especially in safety-critical positions
3. Administer provision of a welfare and well-being service to employees
4. Set medical standards of fitness to work for all positions within the company
5. Manage the administration of a primary general practitioner service to employees and their families
6. Interpret and report the results of Drug and Alcohol Testing Programmes as a Medical Review Officer
7. Provide support to the company's safety management systems
8. Advise on compliance with statutory legislation in respect to employee health and safety
9. Administer the provision of Health Promotion to all employees via the Health Promotion Unit
10. Liaise with national and international organizations to ensure compliance with best practice norms
11. Provide specialist advice in respect of medical Ill Health Retirement of employees
12. Engage with professional organizations to provide training and promote best practice
13. Promote the dissemination of medical standards of fitness for safety-critical work among the medical community
14. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Welfare legislation by all employees


Requirements

1. Primary Qualification in Medicine from a recognized Medical School/University
2. Membership of the Irish College of GPs or Royal College of Physicians Ireland or equivalent
3. Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians Ireland or equivalent
4. On the Specialist Register of the Medical Council of Ireland in Occupational Medicine
5. Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians Ireland or equivalent
6. Experience in and Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
