Job Summary
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, the Controls Technician 2 will provide technical support to equipment engineers for the improvement, installation, validation and transfer of replicate custom automated equipment used in the scale‑up of manufacturing for existing or new Dexcom products. These duties include supporting cross‑functional equipment deployment teams while working with outside suppliers to meet equipment specifications and timelines.
Shift Schedule
This role will be transitioning to our Backend Day Shift in Q4 2026. The schedule consists of 12‑hour day shifts every Friday to Sunday and alternate Thursdays, following a repeating 4‑on/3‑off – 3‑on/4‑off schedule.
Shift Premium: 15% premium only for Saturday/Sunday, no shift premium for Thursday/Friday.
Responsibilities
Work with schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and trouble‑shooting functions.
Test performance of electro‑mechanical assemblies, using test equipment.
Have experience with pneumatics, electromechanical systems, PLCs, and robotic systems in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
Operate, test, or maintain robotic equipment and vision systems.
Analyse and record test results, and prepare written documentation.
Perform operational test and fault isolation on automated systems and equipment.
Carry out activities in equipment development under the supervision of the project engineer, including assembly and testing of equipment, fixtures, processes and/or electronics, completing engineering studies and validations.
Follow Dexcom’s Safety and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) program.
Assume and perform other duties as assigned.
Perform all assigned tasks with appropriate safety requirements.
Update equipment‑related documentation (manuals, drawings, and specifications) as needed.
Qualifications
Typically requires a Level 6/7 qualification and a minimum of 2–4 years of related experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents related to equipment specifications.
Ability to write routine reports, pass‑downs and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, engineers, and managers.
Knowledge and experience with PLC and automated production/process equipment, pneumatics, electro‑mechanical systems and packaging equipment highly desirable.
Experience with process improvement projects (e.g., improving yields, reducing downtime).
Proven ability to work hands‑on in a fast‑paced environment.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and personal interaction skills.
Knowledge of high reliability, high‑volume manufacturing equipment and processes.
Technical writing skills applied to manufacturing documentation and process development; experience in the creation and revision of technical documentation.
