Join us as a Service Layer Network Engineer
We are growing the Technical Delivery Team to support the evolution of the Network and incremental business demand in areas such as 4G and 5G Data, VoLTE, VoWiFi and Messaging. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Service Layer team and work on exciting new technologies as we evolve our network with the introduction of 5GSA to introduce new data services.
This position resides in the Service Layer Network Design team; a team which is accountable for ensuring the delivery of all designs for Policy, Signalling, Entitlement, Steering of Roaming & Messaging.

Signalling (i.e., DRA, DEA, SCP, SEPP)
Steering of Roaming (SoR) & Advice of Charge (AoC)
Messaging (i.e., SMSC, IP‑SM‑GW, MMSC, Voicemail)
Entitlement & Orchestration of eSIM (i.e., Primary, Secondary, ODA, ODT)
5GSA Service Registry (i.e. NRF)
The role will report into the Head of Network Solutions & Architecture and will support the team in performing vendor management for any outsourced design services, ensuring wrap‑around design continuity towards the Voice & Data Core, RAN, Transmission, IP, IT, and Service Delivery, as well as towards Test and Operations for both strategic and development change for the Service Layer Networks.
Your role will contribute to all aspects of the development of the future network (design/add, change and/or increase the network services and resources for capacity, features and functionality).
Whilst you will act as a point of technical accountability, you will work with functional stakeholders to ensure that the right responsibility levels are established – working to exercise influence without direct authority.
Your approach will be customer focused and aligned to the commercial goals of the business. You will also drive our values in day to day technical and operational decision making.
You will be the technical authority for the Service Layer and responsible for the design and technical delivery in this space required to support the Voice, Data & Messaging services on our Network.
What else it involves
Responsible and accountable for capacity management, you will provide innovative solutions to ensure cost effective growth, engage with vendors and stakeholders to ensure that Service Layer & Messaging network elements do not cause bottlenecks that affect the customer experience.
Responsible for driving through the Service Layer Design deliveries from Solution Design through High Level Design, Low Level Designs, Data build, and to a successful handover into Operations for implementation.
Be responsible for design deliveries for Service Layer elements and the interface to other network element within the wider core network architecture.
Collaborate with wider Core and RAN and IT and IP design and operations teams to ensure end‑to‑end design management, and prioritisation of the business needs.
Align with Networks Programme Delivery team to provide insight into detailed project planning. Work closely with project managers through project life to maintain timelines.
Coordinate with the Test team to ensure correct definition of test object list and to review test execution results to ensure successful implementation of new designs and solutions.
Support Operations to ensure design process outputs are translated into accurate node configuration and Method of Procedure integration documentation.
Skills we’re looking for
Educated to degree level in an Engineering/Telecommunications/Computer Science discipline, or equivalent experience.
5+ years’ experience in network design and lifecycle management, including vendor management & experience working on performance and capacity management projects.
Experience working within ITIL v4 framework, with hands‑on experience using BMC tool (Helix) for creation and tracking of implementation CRQ’s.
Proven track record in striving for continuous improvement and driving efficiencies, whilst maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Excellent working knowledge Mobile Core networks architecture, elements, and associated protocols and 3GPP interfaces such as: SIP, GTP, DIAMETER, RADIUS, SIGTRAN, BICC, MAP, CAP, INAP, HTTP2, TLS, etc.
Indepth understanding of 3G, 4G and 5G Core Network architectures and demonstrable experience of using these architectures to deliver Data and Voice services.
Understanding of 3GPP Policy & Charging Control architectures.
Knowledge of Data, VoLTE, VoWiFi architecture & call flows.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to engage different areas of the business at varying levels of technical capability.
Understanding of Cloud technologies, including Kubernetes, and experience of using them for hosting applications.
