Job Description

Orthopedics Supply Chain is recruiting for a Data Engineering Senior Manager located in Raynham, MA; Raritan, NJ; West Chester, PA; Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Cork, IE; or Zuchwil, CH. The role is available across multiple countries and may be posted under different requisition numbers to comply with local requirements. You will report to the Senior Director of Strategy, Innovation, and Deployment.


Key Responsibilities

* Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmaps for the data engineering team through close collaboration with business partners, product teams, data scientists, IT, and other stakeholders.
* Design and architect scalable, performant, compliant, secure and cost‑effective cloud applications and data pipelines for solutions ranging from descriptive dashboards to AI models and workflows, integrating DevOps principles and CI/CD practices and following SDLC development standards, including oversight of test strategy and test plans.
* Conduct strategic build‑vs‑buy analysis, leading detailed financial, operational, and technical evaluation of in‑house versus external development.
* Lead a team of front‑end and back‑end developers, fostering professional development and growth while driving accountability and collaboration, including recruitment and resource management.
* Manage team performance through developing and monitoring key performance indicators across pipeline performance, data quality and reliability, cost optimization, time to market, and digital product adoption.
* Develop frameworks for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing data pipelines to drive reliability, performance, and cost effectiveness.
* Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation according to a defined capacity model.
* Stay current with emerging software development and data engineering best practices, driving innovation and incorporating new techniques into the organization’s strategy.


Qualifications


Education

* A Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a related field.


Experience and Skills – Required

* Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in data engineering, software development, software quality, and/or cloud architecture with a demonstrated track record of production‑grade enterprise‑scale application development.
* Expert‑level proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern data engineering tools and DevOps practices such as CI/CD, error handling, automated testing, and Git.
* Experience working with Agile SCRUM methodologies and supporting tools like Jira and Confluence.
* Foundational understanding of AI concepts – Agentic AI, Gen AI, deep learning, and traditional predictive machine learning.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders and drive alignment in a matrixed environment.
* Knowledge of enterprise systems of records such as ERP, MES, and PLM and familiarity with fragmented, legacy data.
* Experience implementing end‑to‑end data pipelines, cloud applications, and business intelligence and visualization tools.
* Advanced experience with DevOps and Infrastructure as Code practices.
* Advanced experience with business intelligence visualizations such as Tableau and PowerBi, and basic understanding of custom front‑end application development and UX/UI design principles.
* Familiarity with coding languages such as SQL, Python, and PySpark.
* Data preparation methods for AI models—including feature engineering for traditional machine learning and large‑scale data preparation for training LLMs.
* Experience with data management architectures such as Medallion, Lakehouse, Data Fabric, enterprise semantic and metadata management concepts such as knowledge graphs and ontology, and vector databases such as Qdrant and Postgres Vector.


Preferred

* Familiarity with traditional AI/ML models—predictive, forecasting (time series), clustering in libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, or SciKit Learn.
* Familiarity with AI Agent/Workflow frameworks such as Langchain.
* Strong ability to translate complex AI concepts to business stakeholders and drive alignment in a matrix environment.
* Strong experience with custom front‑end and web application development and UX/UI design principles.
* Familiarity with end‑to‑end supply chain domains such as planning, manufacturing, procurement, and distribution within a MedTech or similar industry.


Other

* This position requires up to 20% travel—domestic or international.
