New Ross & District Community Employment Scheme are looking for a reliable, hands‑on Caretaker / Maintenance Worker to help keep St Mary’s Youth & Community Centre safe, clean, and running smoothly. If you take pride in your work, enjoy practical tasks, and like supporting people in a community setting, this role will suit you.
Responsibilities
* Open and close the centre for daily activities and events.
* Keep all internal areas clean, tidy, and ready for use (meeting rooms, kitchen, dance studio, sports hall, toilets, shower room, corridors, and stairs).
* Carry out light maintenance and minor repairs; support centre users with practical issues when needed.
* Clean glass and windows to maintain a welcoming environment.
* Look after the outdoor spaces—grass cutting, weeding, litter control, and general grounds care.
* Follow all health & safety procedures, including manual handling, fire safety, and chemical safety.
* Report any incidents, accidents, or maintenance issues promptly.
* Maintain confidentiality and represent the centre positively at all times.
Desirable Skills
* Good communication and a helpful, approachable manner.
* A practical mindset and readiness to solve small problems independently.
* Physical fitness for regular manual work.
* Awareness of safe chemical use (training can be provided).
* Ability to operate grass‑cutting and basic maintenance equipment.
* Previous caretaking or maintenance experience is useful but not essential.
